I've had a very intermident problem with my 99 cherokee that has no suddenly got much worse.  Originally it stalled while driving and wouldn't start.  Turned over like crazy but wouldn't catch.  After about 30 min fired right up and ran for months with no issues.  Now in last couple days it has stalled and won't start.  I replaced plugs, wires, rotor, cap and coil.  Now I'm getting a p0505 code which says either IACor PCM.  Replaced IAC with no change.  Then took throttle body off, cleaned it all up and after putting it all back was able to get it started but it wouldn't hold an idle.  After a bit of playing around I got it runnin and everything g seemed great.  Now insti have the same code and it died again today and won't start.  Anyone have any ideas for me to check?  Thanks in advance!

Here's a reply for anyone interested or has had same problem.  After getting Jeep towed home today I disconnected battery to clear codes.  Tried to start it again and nothing but now a new code came up P0122 which is the TPS sensor but I'm thinking that might be from cleaning out the throttle body yesterday.  Either way I pulled a plug and it was dry which was odd with pressure at the fuel rail.  Did a bit more reading and decided to test the CPS which failed so I removed it and after installing a new one she fired right up and runs great now.  Time for a beer!

Arg! My first thought was CPS but since you had a different code I dismissed it. I used to carry a spare CPS in my old XJ.

After having my Xj towed 200 kms home last summer I carry a spare sensor for everything... And an AMA card too... ;)

It's ironic because my first though was the CPS after doing some reading but then that dam code threw me off.  Perhaps it was a double up though as I've read the CPS rarely trips a code when it goes and my IAC was really dirty and at 240K never hurts to replace a sensor and was a good excuse to clean throttle body.  Either way she runs great and it's camping time!

cheers

Yeah that behaviour does sound notorious for a CPS failure. I've had one crap the bed on me like that, and never even threw a code.
