Ok so my transfer case chain is biding on the shaft for some reason. but I have a 2.5l transfer case same type. if i take the input shaft from the one i had and put it on the one I have in the 4.0l should it work?

Your chain is probably stretched, I would look at replacing the chain vs a shaft.

sorry the chain is in good shape and not streched. bought a new chain and that is not where it contacts

How is the sproket wear? Usually you can change the chain once and it will stretch again. Second chain will not last as long as the first cause of wear on the sproket. Then change out the sprokets with the chain the second time.
