Looking for a mechanic?
« on: August 05, 2006, 11:25:21 PM »
Well I'm new board but been checking it out lots. Well I have a 93 Cherokee that has a loud noise coming out of it from under the hood. I know its coming from one the the accessories that the serpentine drivebelt is running. I'm just wondering if someone would be able to take a look at it and let me know what you think it might be. I've done lots of work on my vehicles before and would do this too if i knew what accessory it is. And depending on what someone might charge I'd get you do to it and maybe a few other things too. PM me back and let me know.

thanks guys
Kent

Have you tried pulling the belt off, and running the vehicle without the belt (just for a minute!) to be sure that it's a belt driven accessory? if the noise goes away with the belt off, then it most likely is. Then, with the belt still off, you need to turn each pulley and see any of them have loose bearings or don't feel smooth when you turn them. Also, check your fan clutch for looseness, and check your water pump for leakage.

Just some ideas before you spend any money...you may be able to fix it yourself quickly and easily!

Oh, i forgot...also make sure all accessories are securely mounted! I had an alternator bolt break on my jeep, causing it to wobble, make noise, and eventually throw the belt off.
