Overland to Penticton
« on: July 12, 2015, 09:02:17 AM »
Planning on multi day four wheeling trip going from Calgary to Pentiction bc.

Leaving Aldersyde petrocan gas station for 8 am August 1.
Will be taking forestry service roads and jeep trails. Will be camping on the way. There will be plenty of escape routes for those who want to be there for one day or two or more. Or who want to hotel it overnight. Will probably be taking tuesday of work and possible wednesday.

Recommended requirements.
All your camping gear. Lots of water.
One traction device in diff and / or winch. Both is better.
Reliable vehicle.
Jerry can of gas
Off road expierance.
Navigational skill
Full size spare tire.
Will break out the route in sections. Cause we do not know how far we will get everyday. So broken into where there is paved roads out.
Aldersyde to Elkford. No trail names given as this is Alberta.
Elkford to Kimberly. Going over crossing creek trail. Going by whiteswan hot springs. Coming out on fsr by Kimberly.
This part ^^ is probably day one.
Kimberly to Crawford bay going over rose pass.
Crawford bay to either Nakusp hotsprings via retallic and sangdon and the 98 switchback trail. Or Crawford bay to Slocan. This would be end of day two.
Next would be slocan to needles ferry and more fsr to christian valley and then Beaverdell. From here either kvr. Or more fsr to Pentiction. No route has been planned through here as hard to find info on what trails / fsr  are open or closed. Big white is in the area as well. Maybe end of day three.

There are active forest fires in the area so route plans may change. We may also come across closed trails or roads or take a wrong turn and have to back track.
There is also couple other people with built jeeps not on this site coming along as well. Family style four wheeling.
Who wants to go on an adventure?

If anyone is concerned, don't be, Andy is good with a map/gps and he knows the trails well. If the trails are similar to what we saw last year Id say it's great scenery with good wheeling mixed in????
I'm not sure if I can make it yet Andy but I'll keep you posted.

Sounds like 4-5 days wheeling, then a day to drive back.

that sounds like fun, we have originally booked a hotel in Penticton from Aug 7th to 14th, but not sure if we will be able to make this trip. Wife wont camp on the trail with our 2 year old, but i'll se what I can work out.

For hotels. The first night -saterday night if we travel slower the expected we would make it to a campground just before whiteswan lake / hotsprings. We would still be an hours drive from Kimberly / Cannel flats for a hotel. If we make really good time saterday we would camp in camp ground right in kimberly. The second night would be hard to predict where we would be for hotel. But half way through the day on sunday at balfor / grey creek ferry either start heading back to Calgary or continue to Nakusp - possable hotel there. It could work for part of the trip for you Raf.
