Side Steps

Does anyone have any recommendations for side steps (mostly for the wife once I get my 2.5" lift shortly) on the Rubicon?  Any experience with anything that folds up out of the way (not motorized)?  Anything simple that can withstand Canadian weather without rusting like crazy after a couple of years?  I'm not a rock crawler, but I don't want something in the way for normal off-roading.  Maybe nerf bar style?

Nope  and if you’re doing any kind of wheeling I wouldn’t recommend you use the ones on your link.
 The lowest point on your side steps should actually be the slider rail and not the actual step itself.  It will be the first thing to hit in the first thing to get bent and twisted back. I really like the Smitty built ones that are I have on my jeep. I’ll post a link to those when I get a second. Best bet is to focus on protecting your jeep and maybe invest in a good set a grab handles for your wife.

Hey MattMan, the ones on my link have removable steps.  So I'd take those off before wheeling.  I was looking at the Smittybilt ones too... any complaints?

None whatsoever... they’ve stood up pretty well considering they’re almost 6 years old. Very solid as they bolt directly to the frame/body mounts.


Didn’t notice the pic showed them removed... have to buy them separately?

Here's a little video of the installation on a 2 door.  They actually look pretty good.  The steps are included.  I think you can get the rails without the steps though too, but that's not the point.  My wife thinks the Smittybilt ones' step might be too high.  She wants a lower step for around town.
