The out come of our meeting is here and the final decision is for the 2006 Toys for Kids Event to be held in Cochrane. As stated in a prior post. The cost of park rental in Calgary for a 3 hour period was almost $400 so it made it pretty easy to realize that an alternate plan was needed.
Location is just one block west of the Smitty’s that most will know from breakfasts before day runs.
Date Sunday Dec. 3rd
Time: 11:00-2:00

The original plan is a go. Hot Dogs, Smokies and Pop will be sold at a reasonable price and the proceeds will be donated to the choice of the fine staff at CJ92. The folks there do an awesome job for the Calgary community and we thought they would be the best people to decide where the proceeds will go. If everyone brings an unwrapped toy (new) to the event we’ll make sure they get it on behalf of the 4x4 community of Calgary.

If you belong to a club I hope to get the information out as soon as possible to the individual contacts I find. If I happen to miss one or two please make sure you pass the word on to them and their members. I hate to see anybody over looked for any reason.
As mentioned on an e-mail I’ve sent to clubs already, make sure someone remembers to bring a club banner out so we can string it up with the rest, for pictures.

I think there’s skating to be enjoyed if the ice is set and there’s fire pits for us to sit around and visit for a few hours of the day.

Vehicle decorations will be judged for those wishing to partake and a few small prices handed out for the best dressed rig.

Bring lawn chairs, warm clothes especially for the kids, and a few good stories to swap around the fire.

We’re really looking forward to a great turn out and we hope the weather cooperates long enough for this day. Any questions or concerns, feel free to PM me or post up and I’ll try to address them.

Bump

This Sunday  Dec 3

It would be great to see alot of the CJA supporting this event, Weather forecast looks good,

I'll wander down to the park on thursday or friday and give a report on the skating situation.
I used to have an open mind but my brains kept falling out.

I plan to drop in with all three kids. We should make it out at about 12:30. Hope to see lots of the CJA come out for this worthy event.

I’d really like to thank all those that participated in the Toys for Kids Event this year. Numbers were down considerably from previous years but we still gathered a great number of toys and sold over $85 dollars worth of hot dogs, smokies and pop. We didn’t do a vehicle count this year with the lack of the convoy but I would roughly guess we had 30 vehicles in attendance.

Thanks go to the Calgary Ground Pounders, and the Calgary Jeep Association for supporting the event with a few of their members coming out for the few hours and enjoying some time around the fire and the barbecue for some stories about the trails and other events throughout the year. I know there were a few independents in attendance as well and a big thanks to you as well. A special thanks for the fellow wheeler that drove all the way out there feeling slightly under the weather but still made an appearance to drop off some toys. You’re awesome……masked 4 wheeler who ever you may be.

Also thanks to the folks that donated the prizes:
 Emerson Power Transmission
For donating the cordless screw driver

Goodyear Belt and Hose Division
donated everything else)

The people that helped out this year did a great job of pulling things together at the last few weeks. Gary for the barbecue from West Jet: Mic for hauling it out there, Gabe for the garbage bags, Angela was supper at arranging the park with the Town of Cochrane and the potty’s from Mr. P Potty for a screamin’ deal on the cans for the group, and of course Bren for picking all the groceries up and getting them out there. The groceries were donated to the event from the Four Wheel Stampeders allowing all the sales proceeds to go directly to the charity of CJ92’s choice.
We’ll be getting together with the good folks at CJ92 I hope in the next few days to make the delivery and I’m sure they’ll make the great decisions for the recipients of the goods.

Glad to have the chance to chat with more folks this year as it was some what more relaxed. (for me anyway) Thanks again and have yourself a Great Christmas
Gunther
