A CHALLENGE TO ALL OF YOU
« on: January 29, 2007, 08:33:10 PM »
Alright… are you ready for this???

I just clicked open my Email and saw something incredible!

For the longest time, I like so many others, have been void of hope for the backcountry and getting the $$ it takes to make that difference we are all seeking.
In light of this Email, I can honestly say I am so PUMPED!
I’m actually shaking with excitement!!!!

I called Tim from the AURS right away and told him the news…..

From John Stewart of UFWDA in the good ol’ USofA I received a challenge that I think ALL of us would love to be a part of! Could I find people intersted in participating in this.....

Here it is:

Amanda:
In 2006, BF Goodrich Tires, United Four Wheel Drive Associations, and Tread Lightly! sponsored the inaugural Top Trails Program.  Five trails were selected that represent scenic beauty, 4x4 challenge, and most important, involvement by a sponsoring organization to maintain the trail for 4x4 recreation opportunity.  The sponsoring organization received a check from BF Goodrich Tires in the amount of $3,500 to help offset their expenses of maintaining the trail.
BFG is committed to sponsoring the Top Trails Program for 2007.  And, UFWDA will be a partner with BFG during the selection of five more Top Trails to receive recognition.

Now is the time for you to nominate YOUR favourite trail.  Nominate your favourite trail not only for the challenge aspect, but also for the overall benefit of the average 4x4 owner having an opportunity to engage 4x4 and enjoy a fun family time.

Many people have commented about the lack of involvement by industry in support of 4x4 recreation.  Here is one major member of the industry stepping up and participating to help keep trails open.  It is your opportunity to participate.

We are looking for at least one Canadian trail to add to the list.

Do you have a 4x4 trail that is supported by a volunteer club or association you could nominate???

OMG DO I EVER……

Here is our chance! And what perfect timing!!

With Dave beginning the install of more and more bridges in Waiparous and the completion of projects in McLean coming up as well, this is our time to shine! And we could sure use the funds.

Essentially what they are looking for is a small write up with pictures (the best you got!) and send them in. In speaking with Tim from the AURS I have offered to take this project on in their name so that they may put the funds (should an entry from them win) to the trails we all know and love!!

Your pictures can be from anywhere in Alberta! Show everyone how beautiful our trail system is and dig out your best!
Include a write up as well with trail name and why it’s the best trail you have ever been on!

I will gather, print and send in each and every entry I get!
Feel free to Email me with your pictures and story at:
[email protected]  (A underscore Morosse)
or call me with any questions: 403-669-3202
.

Thanks a lot guys and gals!
Even if you dont think you can write, I would be more then happy to help  you out!!
It would mean so much to so many to hear and see your story and mean even more if we won!

BEST of luck!

Amanda Morosse

ps- I dont have a deadline as of yet. Will let you all know asap. So hurry up!!

Just to clarify....
Any trails in Waiparous and/or maclean could be considered "supported by a volunteer club or association " because of the volunteer days and various other projects done by our local clubs ? or do we have to show more specifically how it is supported and by whom exactly ?

Also, could we nominate a now closed trail in hopes of using the sposorship and/or funding as well as the club's desire to maintain and re-open a trail to help convince SRD?

Valid questions.
I would have to say thats a tough one about reopening though... Let me say one thing that may help, This is a contest for 4x4's.
If your favourite trail is now closed to 4x4's I am not sure that you would want to use it.. HOWEVER, there is always the possibility that it may reopen.... some day.

But I am tryin to find out exactly how they monitor the money, if at all. I believe the AURS still operates on an 'open budget', if a trails needs this or that, its done. So the money would just sit in an account for all trails and from what I gather, this is OK... will know by tomorrow.

Also, any trails anywhere in Alberta count! Lots of clubs that no one knows about maintain the trails as well. If you know of any, let them know or let the AURS know!
In your story, you can add in anything you like. Should you want to mention the AURS and its acomplishments, feel free to do so, it is YOUR story. I am sure the AURS will include a short write up of themselves as well if the writter has not.

Just let it fly and see what happens! The only bad entry.. is NO entry!

Howdy all, here are the details:

Contest closes in two weeks, which means I need yoru entries in at least a week from TODAY!

The money goes to ANY trail, not specifically the trail named in your story!
Its there to offset the cost of trail maintenance!

That means, write about ANY trail you want! Whether its closed or open, its YOUR favorite trail they want to see!

Also, if you have old pictures (ya know the paper kind) I will give you my address if you send me an Email and let me know.

Thanks
Amanda

Seems you are all very busy writting....   ;)

Good ideas for topics in your write up are:

- description of the trail
- location
- work done or being done, plans for future projects
- why it meant so much to you
- what got you interested
- mishaps

Note: Pics are not cructial!

Things like this are good to include. Possibly more so the work done in the areas, as we have all put in our fair share and I htink we deserve bragging rights as users!!

I am working on mine still.....

Thanks again!
