You could probably argue that the steel plate across the back and the skid of the stinger acts like a bumper.  Most police officers around here do not know anything about the highway act when it comes to legality of vehicles except for mud flaps and flare width.

I would like at the taffic act and see what the definition of a bumper is

never been stopped myself and I always seem to have a cop behind me. No flaps, short flares, shortened rear bumper.

I think its the RC's that you have to be worried about. I saw a jeep getting flat-deck towed by the RC's in Red Deer for not having wide enough flares.

I got pulled over for not having a rear bumper when I was building my new one.  I was actually on my way to Princess Auto for a part and told the cop that I would have it back on by the end of the day and he said no problem and let me go.  I didn't really understand that because a rear bumper was an option on the older Toy pickups.  Lots of them just have the rollpan on the back.  :?:

I always thought that a jeep was considered a truck in the highway act and therefore did not require a rear bumper as some trucks come without rear bumpers, rollpans like steve said.
But I could be wrong.
And as we all know the cops may still pull you over and give you a ticket, then you have to spend money fighting it, So it would probably be cheaper just to get a bumper, Or those funny little Bumperettes :lol:

76(1)  In this section, “passenger car” means a motor vehicle that is designed primarily to transport people and has a seating capacity of 10 or fewer but does not include a truck, a multipurpose passenger vehicle, a chassis cab, a motor cycle or a moped;

(2)  A passenger car must have both a front and a rear bumper.

My new compass is listed as a truck on the Reg. Papers, and if that qualifies as a truck then I don't understand the definition of a truck.  :wink:

Hehe, I bug the wife cause her XJ is listed as a station wagon on her registration. "Were going shopping? Well we better take the station wagon then" She don't like that.  LOL

Bumpers have become a meaningless notion.  Where are the "bumpers" on a Corvette?

The average family vehicle in traffic here (4x4 extended cab pickup) is going to hit my spare tire a foot shy of any letter-of-the-law bumper.

Must not be an original Albertan who classified that.  No real Albertan would mistake a truck. :lol:

Only two tickets are for $57 and $115  One is for no bumper...and the other is for having a bumper that is altered and does not compare to the orginal equipment.   So the stinger would be a stretch...it would all depend on attitude.

On our way down here I got pulled over in the middle of Idaho I think for not having 50% of my rear tires covered by mudflaps. What a dick cop. I had Canadian plates. He also asked if my bumper was 4 inches wide and I lied and said yes, he didn't have a tape measure out to prove that it was only 3.5. I just played dumb about the mud flaps and he let me go. I think he just wanted an excuse to stop a loaded truck all the way from Canada and make sure something wasn't up. That's my experience.
