Front D 60 swap
« on: March 13, 2007, 05:53:52 PM »
I am doing a front Dana 60 swap and was thinking of doing a shackle reversal as well. What I am wondering about is pinion angle, if I do the shackle reversal my pinion will be pointing to the ground and I can't just cut the perches off because one is milled into the housing along with 2 studs for ubolts. I am unsure if I can shim it because of the studs and if I can use the shims they will make the studs come out of the housing at an angle. Is there a kit out there to fix this or has anybody come up with a way to fix it. Thanks in advance for any help.

Using stock perches, doesnt that leave you outboarding your springs?

If it does, just move you shackle up to where it needs to be and build your front fixed mount slightly lower.

I dont know of any "kits" to swap fullsize 60's into jeeps, but there are tons of oddball helper fab parts to be had.

Have a look here and see if these guys have anything that helps.

I am not looking for a kit to swap it over I am looking for a shim kit for it. Are they available? How much angle can you get? I can't raise my rear shackle it will still be inside the frame rails.

I don't know about a kit, but you can get the shims for any solid axle, just a block of steel. 6 degrees is about max. I believe.

What Dana 60 you using?
You keeping the stock Jeep leaf and hanger locations, as well as stock dana 60 perch's ?

I am using a GM D 60 out of a 3+3 srw 1 ton. I am going to do a shackle reversal and move the axle as far forward as I can, mount my solid mounts to the welded on bumper. I am gonna keep the stock D 60 perches though.
