Closures in effect & Fire Bands due to extreme Fire Risk

I received a link to this notice on the SRD web site yesterday. Please note if planning a camping or day trip large sections of the back country are closed in south west Alberta due to extreme risk of forest fires.

Please note extensive fire bands are in place in the areas that are still open.

The way I read the map those areas are open but the Fire Ban is in effect.

"Extended fire ban
In addition, the Alberta government has prohibited all outdoor fires throughout the closure area, in the remainder of Poll Haven and from the northern border of Waterton Lakes National Park extending north to west of Sundre. The fire ban prohibits the use of all wood, briquette and propane or natural gas fires, including those contained within designated fire facilities. Gas and propane stoves, when designed for cooking, will be allowed."

yea thats how i read it too... but it looks like campfires will be a no go. dont' think weather will help much this weekend either. supposed to be nice, round 25, but looks like NO moisture what so ever.  hope people are smart enough to leave the fireworks at home....

"Campfire Bans in Southeast Fire Centre

There are currently no campfire bans in effect for the Southeast fire centre.

While campfires are still permitted, the Southeast Fire Centre reminds the public that anyone who lights a campfire is legally required to take all appropriate precautions to control it. Never leave a fire unattended and make sure it is completely extinguished before leaving the site.


The Southeast Fire Centre extends from the US Border in the south to Mica Dam in the north and from the Okanagan Highlands or Monashee Mountains in the west to the B.C./Alberta Border in the east. This includes all of the Arrow-Boundary, Kootenay Lake, Rocky Mountain and Columbia Forest Districts.

Forest Use Restrictions in Southeast Fire Centre

There are currently no forest use restrictions in effect for the Southeast fire centre."

Southeast B.C. fire bans in effect

Campfire Bans are in effect.

Effective at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, August 3, 2007, all campfires are prohibited throughout the Rocky Mountain Forest District. The Rocky Mountain Forest District covers the area extending from the B.C./Alberta border in the east to the Purcell Mountains in the west, and from the town of Parsons in the north to the U.S. border in the south.


This open fire ban is in effect to protect public safety and to limit the risk of person-caused wildfires. This ban does not restrict fires in stoves using gas, propane, or briquettes.


This open fire ban applies within BC Parks and to all public (Crown) and private land outside of organized areas. This fire ban does not apply within municipalities or regional districts that have their own burning bylaws.


Provincial Park campgrounds remain open for all other activities.
