any tips would be helpfull,,

witch screw is air and witch is fuel,,,,,how many turns out for each,,,stuff like that


just trying to get a couple more mpg out of it     :oops:

What kind of carb is that? 2 barrel, or 4 barrel?? Most carbs have their fuel metering inside, and all you can adjust from the outside is the idle mixture, and sometiems the float level. To go further, most carbs have to be taken apart, and have new jets or power valve installed.

 Of course buying a gasket set and doing a rebuild wouldn't be a bad idea on a carb that age, if it hasn't been done recently.

sorry its a 2 barrel   ..far as i know its never been touched...seems to work ok for the most part,,   my choke isnt even hooked up and it will kick the idle down all on its own once its warmed up

OK, well if it's anything like mine, it's a motorcraft 2 barrel, and the idle mixture adjustment screws are on the front of it, sort of underneath and hard to see or reach. if you turn them in, you make the mixture leaner, and if you unscrew them, it gets richer. This adjustment, however, really only affects idle mixture, and has little or no affect on total amount of fuel used unless you're doing alot of idling. If you lean it a little bit, you may get better mileage in the city, or during winter when it idles alot...

Anyway, to adjust them, the easiest way is to screw them in til they seat, but be gentle, then turn them both out 1 turn, start the engine, and see how it runs. It may need to be richer, but be sure that you adjust both sides evenly.

Beyond this, removal and disassembly of the carb is nescessary.

You can also try retarding the timing, or using a hotter thermostat. Basic tuneup and air filter might help too.

thx     i will try those settings,,tune up and timing all ready done. its soon to be my daily driver ,  hoping to be able to park the srt  for the winter
