Imagine Danny Williams and Rick Mercer Off-roading in Newfoundland? It happened!
In an attempt to continue to profile our “sport” in a positive and public light NOVA Admin took the opportunity this week to show some hospitality to Rick Mercer and Danny Williams.
We, and a bevy of others in the off-road sport in Newfoundland were contacted last week by Rick Mercer Report researchers to see if someone would be willing to take Rick and Danny Williams off the beaten path for an interview. What an opportunity to have NOVA stickers seen nationally in one of our favorite playgrounds. We accepted.
While the plans for the day continued to change (as much as the weather) we managed to take them to Seal Cove and show them what we do. Danny drove Rick in Brad Hunt’s Jeep (thanks Brad), while the camera crew and producer tagged along for the right moments and the right locations for the actual interview.
There were a few of us asked a few questions on the spot … but we will likely find fame only on the editing room floor.
I wish everyone in NOVA could have been involved in this CBC event, but unfortunately that would never work. Those who were contacted by CBC stayed involved and appeared that day despite the request from RMR Producer that we keep the numbers down to aid in getting the shots needed and the time frame reasonable. As a result we did not post that the taping was happening. I am sure you understand.
Those in attendance included me, Monk, Brad, Dennis, Rob Percy, Rob Squires (and entourage), Shady Dave with Larry and Bobby, Dean Mitchell, Kaleen and friend in Kinsella’s old rig, and Daniel Gosse and Mark Seymour from Sled Headz. (Who am I missing?)
Thanks go out from CBC and from Danny Williams, but also from those of us who took on the responsibility of trying to coordinate this for RMR and CBC.
While some of us were there in vehicles we have been using all summer, several others spent long hours or precious dollars at Shady Dave’s trying to get vehicles ready for the event. Brad managed to fold down his 12 year old windshield and Rob Squires even managed to get the big blue XJ/Chev/Cherokee ready for the day – on 44’s! Thanks to each of you for the effort. I wish all could have been a visible part of the show – but I think the closing scene with everyone piled on Brad’s and Rob’s Jeeps will look awesome.
All in all, I think Rick and Danny were shown a great day and CBC had the right scene for the production.
