Has anyone done the math to see if this rain event will meet or exceed what we got two years ago in the spring of 2005??

I recall that the actual storm yesterday brought 70 some mm of rain, then overnight was around another 10 or so. From what I recall from two years ago, in the 4 total days there was around 150mm of rain, and the second rain a week later brought the total way over the 170 which is normal for June.

I tell ya, this much rain will always do more modification to the trails than 10 years of motorized ohv use.

Once again, the trails will be radically different.

During '05 COP recorded one day with 90.2 mm of rain and a total for the month of 376.1 mm.  The airport had a one day max of 46.2 mm for a monthly total of 247.6 mm

COP only recorded 27.6 mm yesterday

last nights rain storm would have been a good for the CJA to impress some people and get some good publicity, people with winches could have pulled people out of some of those large puddles.  Snorkles would have come in handy on Glenmore. A guy I know waited 10hrs for a tow truck. If only I wasn't so lazy and had fixed my brakes. Just food for thought.

Sounds like a good idea, being a good samaritan.

A lot of passenger vehicles don't have decent tow points, plus pulling a car filled with water makes for a pretty heavy pull. Remember, 1 cubic foot of water weighs 62.4 pounds! (silt is extra).

Plus insurance liability if the vehicle gets damaged in the pull. Honestly, better to leave the car there, and let the recovery company do the work. They have the insurance to cover their butts.

But to go play in the puddles sure would have been fun!

it kinda goes without saying, i know we all would love to be the good guy that pulls people out of the ditch or whatever. but remember, if your truck breaks, or you break the other persons vehicle, whos going to pay for that? and if the insurance company catches wind of that, what are they gonna say? ive pulled over after watching people hit the ditch in winter. i always offer them a call with my cell to get them a tow truck. and they look at my jeep and ive been asked, but i always say the tow truck will do a way better job. i guess it depends on the situation.
my 2 cents.

I went out and played in the puddles.  What a Blast.  I also did rescue one vehicle but it was my wife.  Her car got swamped at work and is now at the stealership to be repaired.  Just water damage to the interior.  The airbag computer under the passenger set did get drowned though.  I bet that will cost big$$$$$  So the rental car company gives me a dodge caliber with the cvt transmission.  Wow is that ever a weird transmission.  Take a bit of getting used to.  Did anyone else's car of jeep get flooded?

I drove through puddles checking out all the water logged cars & minivans just for fun. Checked  to make sure no one was still trapped inside.

One minivan had baby in back seat, mom was in a panic, couldn't get him out... but someone else beat me to it.

Saw a few manhole covers pop off.
Lotsa horrible engine noises as people were trying to start hydrolocked engines. Some even boosting them....

Mechanic shops and insurance people going to be busy this week.

I was one of the ones that worked with the fire department to pull people out of Glenmore and McLeod, that firefighter that was fullpage on the front of the Sun was at  the other end of our winchline plus tow strap. 2.5 hours or more worth to pull out 6 vehicles.  He hooked to whatever he could find after getting owner permission etc.

Yes, I took on some water, yes my carpets need washing either with the high pressure washer or in the laundromat (naughty grin), but we also have signed waivers etc. with the fire department in the past as part of the ham group we were part of, so they were ok with our assistance.

It was a blast ... and on the positive side, the fan clutch that was stuck for 2 years unbeknownst to me is now unstuck.. wow, much quieter, better power and what appears to be better mileage! <Grin>.

I definitely have decided I need a) Synthetic line, b) extension lines and c) to find where the water comes in when it's still below the doors and seal the tub <laugh>.
