WJ brake issue

ok, so i just bought it last week, and like it, cept for what seems to be a brake issue.  so when i apply brakes it feels like they are grabbing and then letting go. so when i come to stop it grabs, then lets off, then grabs again, all with same pressure on the pedal.  it is fairly consistant but some times its worse than othertimes, usually depending on how much force i apply, and when they are warmed up its worse.  it is very noticable at speeds of 40km/h to 60km/h and can't really notice much at highway speeds.  ABS still seems to work fine.......

so what is this?  i would like to know as brake systems are usually pretty important

Perhaps your rotors are warped? That will cause a pulsing sensation when braking...Grabs on the high part of the rotor, slips on the low spots, grabs on high spots etc.

Take a peek at the rotors and see how they look, maybe cost $20 per rotor to have em machined down fresh again?

ya i was thinking warped rotors too. i've also heard it oculd be calipers, and i just want some confirmation before i replace anything...  will pull rotors this weekend to take a look, and if they bad will replace with some good, slotted rotors....
2 jeeps right now Joey. had another 95 grand but uptraded for the 00WJ haha.  if all goes well in the next month and i get a new job (NOT in banking haha)  then i should be rollin on 35s this summer... that will be sawwweeet

I have the same problem on my 99 Grand. Apparently it is the stock calipers... they are the "open" type. if you look at them they will appear to have "fingers" running across them. these were recalled in certain areas of north america. Jeep has a replacement for these, best to call the stealership. I will try to find some literature on this so that you can walk in for the replacement with some documentation.

great info thanks!  kind of angers me though. not a fan of brake failures, spceially on a 'luxury' SUV. i will call tower chrysler in the morning and get said parts.  do you know/have any info regarding recall?  i've no problem buying the kit to fix the problem, but i'd rather not pay for it haha

well calipers and pads are 328 at the stealership.  rotors 110.  question is should i replace with those parts, or would local autoparts places work, like autovalue?
