a pack of razor blades and a case of beer and go to it.

I believe fountain tire on blackfoot trail can sipe tires, but they will have to be brand new. On used tires there can be rocks in the treads that will damage the blades on the siping machine.
I used to have an open mind but my brains kept falling out.

I mean like 3/8 - 1/2" wide cutting lugs in half with a hot siping knife kind of thing.

you need a grooving iron. i bought one from the tire supplier my old shop used. they go for about 150$ or so. it took me about 2.5 hours to do 4 33" tires. its fun... helped open up the tread for the mud. but make be sure you dont take too much off. i cut into the lugs on the edges of the tread and my side traction isnt as good.
if you cant find one let me know. ill lend it out for some cash if you're interested.

GROOVING... thats the word I was looking for! Yea I'd love to get my paws on one.. I will look around, but if I cant find one I will definitely take you up on the rental offer by pm. Thanks!

By the way, what depth and width can you achieve with the grooving iron and does it have a couple different blade sizes?

when you actually see a tire groover then it will make sense. but the blades are just V shaped and are clamped to the tip of the groove iron. which you plug into any regualr home outlet and it heats the tip and thus the blade. since the blade is V shaped the deeper you go the wider the groove, but at its widest its only about 3/8 or so. you can adjust the blade on the tip too to go deeper in the lugs. but i wouldnt get too close to the actual carcass of the tire. when i did mine i left about the thickness of the wear bars. so maybe 1/32 remaining on the carcass.
on a side note, the iron can be plugged into a household socket... but dont groove on your living room. its burnt rubber so it smells a little, and it leaves a bunch of rubber slivers all over the place.
pm if you guys want to borrow it. like i said, about half hour for a 33" tire. and i used about 1 blade for 2 tires.
pm me if you're interested or have questions:)
