I'm currently over in Portugal on a one month contract. 90 % of the vehicles over here are diesels, including Jeeps. I've seen a diesel 96 and 2000 grand, an 06 Patriot, an 01 XJ and I also saw in a magazine a brand new, 2.8 CRD Wrangler. Even the Chrysler minivans are diesels. It's tempting to bring a Wrangler back, as they are even left hand drive.
Diesel is about 14 cents per litre cheaper than gas here, so it makes more sense for sure. I'm driving a rented Hyundai Tuscon, with a CRD motor. I don't know what size it is, but it has decent power. It is a little noisy, but the amazing thing is, you can't notice any diesel smell, even when idling in the garage before driving away. It also gets good mileage: 9.8 l/100 km in mostly city driving, which is about 30 mpg.
