Fair Price on a 97 TJ?
« on: June 08, 2008, 08:43:00 PM »
Hey all,

I have a handle on a 1997 Jeep TJ with a 2.5L motor 5 speed etc.  The body and everything else is great but the motor is blown and will likely need replacement.  Whats a fair price for this jeep?  Also what 2.5L motors are swappable?  I can likely do the engine swap myself so that will save me some money.  Thanks for the info guys, also if anyone is selling a 2.5L that would be usable, pm me!

Thanks!

Duncan

I suggested the 4.0l swap on 4wheeler....
`48 CJ2A, `54 CJ3B, `97 TJ, and 03 WJ...batting close to .500 when it comes to jeep models owned vs. jeep models created.....

What all is required in swapping in a 4.OL?  New motor mounts, computers/electronics, driveshafts, transmission and transfer case?  Id like to do this thing as cheaply as possible so I may just hold off on the 4.0L and stick with a 2.5L for now.

If i am not mistaken aren't the transfer case the same in the 2.5L and the 4.0L.  Because i am running an np231 and in the the step dads tj is also an np231 and he is running the 4.0L .  Some say its cheaper to just buy a jeep with a 4.0L then to do the interchange between the 2.5L and the 4.0L.

I'd be careful on this one and low ball it as much as you can. Because you just won't know the truth about the t-case tranny and diff's untill you get it mobile.
A good clean trail virgin 97 4 banger would run about 5000 these days. Swapping the motor will cost you more than you think, It always does :)
I used to have an open mind but my brains kept falling out.
