Newbie looking to drive
« on: August 01, 2008, 07:40:42 PM »
I recently got my 97tj and recently bought a replacement transfercase to install.  When my 4wheel drive is up to snuff can anyone suggest any good experimental places to go? I want to get comfortable with my jeep before i embarass myself in front of a huge group of people.
I forgot to mention my tj has good grip tires

If someone can suggest any easy trails or even a beginner off road club that would help tons!

Thank you

Nothing to be embarressed about....everybody started somewhere.
You can just watch the posts and decide (ask) what runs are for you.........ulitimately only you can decide wether or not you are comfortable with what lies in your path. Best thing  to do is get out there  and watch the guys with more time at the wheel.............let them be the test pilot and watch the line they choose. !!!  ;)

Right on, i think both of those suggestions will be wise ones to follow.  I get some good overtime so hopefully i have some motivation to install the tcase before the august date.

Thanks for the tips

Not sure what your experience level is - I had never driven offroad before but I went out as a passanger a few times when I was starting to learn. Ultimatly, I find I learn best by doing but it was nice to get some one-on-one instruction from an experienced driver without having to worry if I was going to add damage to my Jeep.  It also allows you to see some of the more difficult trails you can tackle later on without compromising your safety or your rig due to lack of experience.
