Drag Racing rules and Regs

well im looking into building a drag car. ive picked up a 87 mustang and of course ive got a 450hp/ 445 ft. lbs 383 lined up, but i cant seem to find any rules and regulations on the car ir self?? or how to "enter a class". im trying to find vechicle ristrictions and so far i cant find anything. amyone here go out to the strip and could share some info to a greenhorn.

Are you looking to just head out to race city for the secret street races open to public?

Ive dragged my integra there, they look over your car for any obvious issues or problems. A battery tie-down  is one thing I know is necessary, but otherwise Ive never had any issues with my car and its heavily modified.  As long as its built right and not leaking fuel on the strip, you should be good to go.  8)

Secret Street is the way to go................they don't get to picky bout stuff as long as you meet all the nesc equipment rules.
I was hoping to have my Miata done...but time, time, time......never enough to go around.  :'(

exactly what i was looking for RUBI. i dont know how i didnt find those before, i was even on that page. :o. and i was really hoping to run open headers. but oh well.

open headers are over rated......U can make as much horsepower, and usually more torque with a good set of muffs.......and ur feet wont get cooked on the floorboards either !!!

Did you know that next year will be the last for drag racing in calgary? Maybe even this year. If you are going to build a drag car I would not take it to far from stock so that you can put it back on the street next year.

I can't imagine we will see any more drag racing here for many years, maybe an oval, maybe even an indoor year round oval. But a drag strip with todays real estate prices is extremely unlikely.
 If you are willing to travel, I hear nothing but good things about the track in medicene hat and I'm sure Edmonton raceway will be around for a long time.
I used to have an open mind but my brains kept falling out.

That won't be an option for a lot of Calgarians.................I can see illegal street racing showing up more and more if that occurs...... :o

there has already been an increase in street racing since they have said the track is getting closed thats what they dont realise... close the track and its getting taken to the streets

Just an FYI....Race City techs all vehicles to IHRA standards. These can be found in the 2008 rule book that is available at Mopac or Performance Parts. The NHRA rule book is also available at these locations too. If you have questions that you cannot find the answers to, come out to Race City and ask any of the tech staff (I recommend talking with Mike, he's been teching and building cars for years). We're there every friday, every second wednesday, and of course on race weekends.
