coolent gage

I am being a little lazy here I am going to ask instead of looking it up in the manual but here is the coolant sensor that controls the gage in the dash? Mine decided t stop working this weekend the gage that is. The electric fan still kicks on and off as I go down the trail but I need to see what is going on as well.

4L should be located drivers side of valve cover closest to firewall threaded into flat top of head ...

Here is the question, if the sensor is in the head and controls the gage in the dash where dos the fan get its signal to kick on and off. If their is only one sensor that means the gage has bit the dust.    
Dos anyone have any sources for info about this the CT manual I have doesn't tell me much.

maybe post which jeep and eng you have also ...

mine is a hybrid so not best example - I also have a sensor in the thermostat housing
at front of engine ,  it goes to computer ... totally unrelated to temp sensor in head
which only provides input to dash gauge - my fan is belt driven so cant help ya there ...

get a second opinion - but your electric might be similar to my belt system,  in the fan housing
there is a theromstat that senses rad temp -  as it heats up on mine it causes the fan to engage
like a clutch ... they do this to conserve fuel ... when engine cold you can spin fan and eng hot
you cant cause its engage ...

yours might be as simple as the theromstat in fan housing expands and causes 12v to fan to engage ...

post jeep model - year - eng and someone will know for sure ...
