u know, those ZJ things look to be a lil' smaller than these JK 4 door things, and last time i checked, they came with some big engines. i think that in 98 i beleive it came with a 5.9L V8 and word on the street is it was the fastest production SUV at the time.  i know 98 was a long time ago but u know, those things seem to be roomy,  carry a family, and still fit down trails (i've done it) and if u hit a tree, well at least it ain't a 08' leased vehicle........

SO, if u want a removable topped, underpowered brand spankin new SUV, ya i like the 4 door JK.   or get a ZJ (man am i biased haha) carries everything, has great power (tell me u have driven a V8 powered ZJ that wasn't pooched that ran poopy)  and solid axles.
also, last time i checked, my wheelbase on the ZJ was 107.  whats teh JK? 116?  the ZJ back in teh day was 'big' haha, not so anymore.........

donno where i'm going with this........ just heard underpowerd jeep and remembered there was a line of jeeps thats not so underpowered..............

My Cj has a V8, removable top, and carries everything I need, but not all those things people never used to need   ;D

I've got a 2 Door JK.  It's got plenty of power for its size.  I've always been curious why the 4 Door has more-or-less the same powertrain, just stretched out.   It weighs more...  Guess a person could always install a supercharger kit to bump it up a bit.  There are some companies in the US dropping HEMI crate engines in the JK's.  Probably a wee bit on the pricey side though.

I was talking to a guy at trade school (Mechanics) today and he has a new 4 door JK Rubicon, he was saying that it was under powered but after changing the intake manifold, exhaust manifold, full exhaust and chipping it now it works much better. So we can get more out of it gust have to play with it.
Why does your Jeep say Toyota on it?

ive driven the JK on and off road and the drive on the road it felt gutless and if u just let the cluth out it would almost stall i was so un happy and was bashing my friend for buying it then i realized theres atraction control button that u can swtich off .. thats when i was in the bush and to tel lu the truth it comes alive feels just like a TJ
it climbs well and gets over the same obstacles as the TJ's do. stock that is TJ and JK

but yes the 4door looks like a H2 and i hate the H2 and H3 if your going to buy a hummer buy a humvee .but there uselss in the trails to big to heavy .

so the JK in my books arnt to bad but im stil not giving up my TJ RUBICON for a JK

When I first saw a 4 door JK I did not like them at all.
But after seeing them more and more and seeing allot of pictures of them done up I have to say I really do like them now.

But then again I have a Jeep with Square Headlights so what do I know :)

I have a question for the old timers. When the Jeep Cherokees started to appear on the trails lifted and trail ready did they receive the same welcome the 4 door JK’s are getting?
Why is it that everyone hates them? Are you jealous that you can carry more then your transformers lunch box and a tow strap or is it that the hole family is out breeding more jeepers and carrying all the gear you would ever need. I view them as the replacement for the Cherokee and there is lots of them on the trails going place that is leaving the TJs behind crying because they would not make it.

For all the wierd lookin crap that comes out these days and with all the facist trendy comsetic BS that these automotive companies are doing, Im just glad that the JK hasnt fallen into a death trap that would be the IFS. Surely that would be more than just a sad day for jeepers anywhere, but I know it would wreck alot of ... everything. I am also glad knowing that somewhere out there people are wheeling a Wrangler with a factory equiped deisle.  And even more infrequent but just as satisfying, is that there are Jeep JT wrangler trucks with factory equiped rear D60's, front D40's, a diesle engine AND a built in snorkle. It's just a shame that some insider really hates his job and wants to make the Jeepers out there suffer for it. But, with all the technology and off road advances & popularity some one will take his sorry arse position within the company, or automotive engeneering & design and give us the people what they want. The end all beat all is in the future. I cant help but keep my hopes up. But like I said, if the IFS comes to rest under the wrangler, hell will be frozen over, and it will be a long road out that tragedy.

Found out one reason why the JK can seem powerless on the trail.  One of the features for road handling ESP (electronic stability program) can rob power from specific wheels to maintain "traction".  Has multiple program components, like specific wheel braking to act like a psuedo locker, traction control, braking to specific wheels to prevent roll-overs, blah blah.

You can disable it when in 4HI or 4LO in two modes of "offness".  Pressing the button in 4WD kicks off the ESP unless something extreme is read by the computer, like crazy wheel slippage, or massive sudden braking.  It leaves the brake "locker" on.

Holding the button down for 6-8 seconds kicks the stability portion of the program right off.  It pulls up hills and through mud WAY harder when it's off as there's no computer big brother trying to even out the power.  It only leaves on the ABS system, everything else is turned off.

The system is reset if you go over a certain speed in 4HI (40km/h I think...), swap to 2WD, or turn the vehicle off.

I goofed around with it a couple times the other weekend.  Made hill climbing a LOT better when partially or fully off.  Partially off seemed to work better with my smooth tires.  Made no difference for me in the mud, but stock street tires where probably more to blame for that one.....  when off in the mud it just seemed to let me spin em faster, which of course doesn't help a smooth tire a whole lot.

Seems like other JK-ers with proper wheels tend to fully disable it, especially around mud.
