rebuilding trannys..diffs

so im no mechanic but i was thinking about buyinf a cheap tranny-tcase and diff then rebuilding them for when the time comes (my tranny grinds a bit going into 5th)

how hard is all this? possible to a new guy? apporx corst of rebuild parts?
