Thanks for all the input everyone...
I thought this thread would have been more dead then this, so I appreciate that.
I know it's still early for planning, but didn't yesterdays wet snow give you that feeling of may long camping? lol
No rain, snow or sleet is going to prevent us from heading out.
As far as staying home, it's the one chance I get to get out of the city rush & enjoy peace with the family.

Sibbald Lake sounds really nice & fit with what we do, we'll be starting our long weekend on the Thurs prior, so we should be one of the first come first serve.

As for Mclean, the years I've gone, Ive never really noticed all the wrong doing as I'm never in front of the action to see what happens, were to secluded to notice & keep to ourselves anyways..   It's to bad really.

They should have everyone that goes into the campground sign in with ID, no minors unless accompanied by an adult (not that that helps to much) to control the amount of minors drinking under age, it would give it the sense of a controlled environment. I'm sure everyone has their own .02 cents worth about this tho, but I think it's a start if they could control the gates???

cheers!

Go to Waiporous.
Relatively quiet these days on May Long.
Trails are open for jeeps.
Close.
Free.

Go to Waiporous.

Thanks!
I have thought about it, but I was under the impression that Waiporus is falling under the same category as Mclean?
Don't they have only a few trails open also?
Cheers!

It is much quieter than Maclean these days.
There are trails open (limited).
But based on your needs, these trails would probably suit you that weekend.

Jsun - consider memorial campground right in (of all places) downtown Pincher Creek. It's in an older "character" residential neighbourhood where you can hear a pin drop. Maybe a dozen sites on beautiful lawn under trees with picnic tables. $10./night all in with showers. It's right on the river bike trails. You don't even see a car drive by. Then you take day trips out - Waterton/Glacier, Crowsnest Pass, etc.  The thing is, if you need something in the middle of the night, you're right in the middle of a fair sized town with all amenities.

Thanks for that RedDog!

Spinal guy has me almost sold on Waiporous(twist my arm), due to the closeness of the action, but it would be nice to take a trip somewhere & make the most of it. It's probably going to be the Crowsnest Pass area as an employee from work brought in a map specific to Crowsnest & pointed out all the hot spots, even some trail riding in the area..so I'll look up Pincher on this map as I try to plan out this trip.. again thanks!  8)

I've decided that New Denver is going to be a trip that we make, but closer to summer.. more time to wander & look around when it's nicer out...

if you have a decent truck, you can make it pretty far back into mclean creek on the road past the gravel pit.  i have been doing that for the past five maylongs, and maybe see a dozen people the whole weekend.  last time, the closest campground was about 2 km away.  just hope i can make it back through that first pit this year :)
