Windshield mount lights Question?
« on: November 08, 2005, 09:10:28 AM »
When the lights are mounted to the windshield hinge with a light bracket where abouts is the best place to run the wiring? Should I drill a hole threw the windshield frame or some where else? Any advice would be great Thanks.

Romove the cowel grate, drill a hole from the engine compartment into the cowel area, and run the wires out each end of the cowel. Screw the cowel back down.

All done.

:?: If I understand you correctly the wires would run up and out each side of the cowl grate and over to the lights which are about a foot from the edge of the cowl. That foot of wire would be exposed and laying on top of the body in front of the windshield. To me that doesnt seem right.

The distance is no more then about 6 inches, but it doesnt matter, there is the top of the fender body seam that runs over there. You can tuck the wires into that, and exit them right under the light mount.

You'll see what I mean once you get looking at it.

PM me your email, if I have time tonight, I'll take a picture for ya and send it to you.

Here' s what I did with mine.

I drilled a hole on each side into the cowl.  Added paint and a grommet:

Drilled a hole into the engine bay... Once again added paint and a grommet:

Mounted a relay right there by the hole into the engine bay (on the TJ):

Ran a wire to the battery, one to ground, and one into the passenger compartment through a grommet in the firewall just above the gas pedal (sorry no pic).

Since I cant get my home email working those pics work.

I did the same basically. My mounts bolt to the two bolts right under the windsheild hinge, so I just brought the wires out of the seam right at the end of the cowel. Theres only a couple inches of wire outside.
