YJ 4" lift questions

I am running a 94 YJ frame with 4" RE lift springs.  I now have little or no up travel on the rear suspensions because the spring eye hits the frame right away.  The shackle bolt through the frame so I loose half the travel right away.  I am sure I am not the first person to put a 4" lift in a YJ so I was wondering what I can do to correct this.  I was thinking of moving the shackle hanger to under the frame and getting some 2" springs for the rear and making up whatever difference in lift in the shackles.  Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Are these the military wrapped springs?  I would also look at longer shackles.  MORE makes so great boomerang shackles with about 1/2" lift and help get the spring eye away from the frame

x2 on boomerangs. i got em out back, will put em up front eventually too.  i have the rubicon ones as well. the shackles will help.  you also have to work these springs in. mine rode like a dumptruck for a while but now they are nice and worked in.  need to drive on em, flex etc
also how tight did you do upt he shackle bolts?  mine are at about 20ft/lbs or so. looser the more it'l flex

Is it possible that the leaf spring is in the wrong way?  When I installed this lift some years ago the "double military wrap" end of the spring is attached at the frame end and the other end of the spring (with no military wrap) is attached at the shackle.  The "double military wrap" is mounted to the frame (the spring mounts located closest to the skid plate/crossmember) on bother the front AND rear springs.  The other part of the install a guy could overlook is the steel sleeve in the spring eye bushings.  The 1/2" diameter sleeves go at the shackle ends and the 9/16"  diameter sleeves go at the spring mounts located by the skid/crossmember.

Longer shackles are also a good idea, but if you were planning on shimming the rear end and staying away from the SYE until the $ tree is back in bloom  - the longer shackles plus the lift will imho guarantee that  shimming will not stop the dreaded driveline vibration.

I was talking to a guy who installed BDS susp lifts and he said that the BDS came from the factory with double military wraps on both ends and that they had to cut off the wrap on the shackle end for YJ's.

Thanks for the info guys.  Yeh these are the millitary wraped ones HD for the V8 swap.  I will have to check and make sure that the springs are in the right way I didn't install them and also I will have to check if wrapped at both ends. No worries about drive line vibration the only thing YJ is the frame, springs and tub.  I am running an AMC 360 TF727 and Dana 300 setup conected to a 14 bolt rear via a Double Cardon drive shaft.  I do definatley need to work these springs they are 1 run old.

Has anyone any thoughts on a 3\4 elliptical setup    http://jeep.off-road.com/jeep/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=260273    I have all the stuff to do it I just want some more opinions on it.  I know there is the possibility of breaking the upper spring but like I said I have every thing to do it = free.  As far as the bommerangs go not a bad idea for sure but I have a next to new set of greasable shacks here that I want to use again since I have them.( no more cost). 

I'm not trying to sound cheap but the money tree for the jeep has been shacking all winter and running out of fruit.

more research is making me lean toward boomerang shackles can someone explain to me how they work differently than standard ones.  I just cant seem to wrap my head around how the shape makes a difference they still pivot on a circular ark.

they work the same as a regualr shackle. the trick is that they usually come a little longer, and they let the leaf spring pivot bakc more and clear the frame. the bonus is they usually come with a cross brace too. if you use a long straight shackle it could flip forward and bend the heck out of the main leaf spring, ive seen it happen on front springs, very ugly.
ive got currie shackles and they are pretty nice as well. i think the MORE shackles are the thickest version out there.
