Sanity check...am I getting in over my head?

So, I've finally scraped together the dollars for a lift. I've got most of it sitting in my living room, and the balance of it should be here on Tuesday.

I think that I've got a pretty good idea of how to go about this, but I'm still very much a novice when it comes to wrenching. Here's what I'll be installing:

OME coils (+/- 3" lift)
OME Long travel shocks
JKS front and read adjustable track bars
Currie adjustable front upper control arms (to keep my caster at or greater than stock)
Front and rear extended bump stops
Front and rear adjustable sway bar links (most of these are here, one bit arriving next week)
Front and rear extended brake lines
Currie rear coil retainers (arriving next week)

Other than one OEM bolt that I know I'll have to cut through to remove it, drilling the frame end control arm mounts out to 1/2", and bleeding my brake lines, I think that all of this is essentially bolt-on.

I'm hoping that those who have more experience can let me know about the "gotchas" that may burn me.
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

new brass washers for the brake lines?  I think they are brass, part source has them but there are different sizes so you need to know before you go, which size you need.  What ever you do, don't re-use the old ones.

Lots of wood blocks for the jack stands also helps.

Crawl under it and with the instructions figure out which end you want to start with, I'd think the rear would be easier.

I'm thinking Wednesday of next week, provided that I have all my parts by then. I don't really want to put on the LT shocks without the spring retainers  :o

I've checked, and they included new washers with the brake lines - and they do look like they're brass.

I've got some leftover 2X4's from builing the cart for my hardtop, so I'll use some of those.

my $0.02

even though it is relatively new.  go under prior to and soak every nut & bolt with liquid wrench.  go to princess auto and get some anti-seize, it is on sale.

Pre-soaking every fastener is very necessary.  You should also consider getting your hands on a small torch to heat up anything that might be threadlocked.  I have sheared off track bar teck screws at midnight, scratching my rookie head only to realize that Chrysler, in their infinite wisdom, had glued the Jeep together.

that was fun wasn't it?  oh the lil' ZJ that could!


it should be straight forward Todd. and thers lots of people that can help ya if need be. (like bleeding brake lines :D )

You will be fine, just make sure you test fit those bolts first before drilling, and just to be clear, those uppers use a 7/16", not 1/2".

Thank you! I had heard that I would need to drill out to 1/2"...but you're right. Currie says 7/16".

Unless you've got 12T jackstands, get yourself some 8-12 pieces of 4x4 cut about 18-20" long to use for cribbing to effectively make the jackstands higher....you'll find different uses for them around the garage too. Drill a 1/2" hole through them on one end, put a piece of rope through the hole, and tie it back to itself using a double overhand knot....this will make them easier to move around. Learnt this from some fire buddies who do heavy rescue
