Witch Winch Would We Want?
« on: April 14, 2010, 06:43:48 AM »

OK I bought this bumper http://www.cseoffroad.com/xhdpb.html    and was thinking of matching it up with this winch
http://www.quadratec.com/products/92122_1001_07.htm  does any one have any experience with either of these. I know it's not a Warn or Ramsey but I have heard some positive feedback on them and the price is hard to beat
Thanks '

dont cheep out on one of the most importand peices of gear you can have, get a warn they can take any abuse you throw at them. yes they are more expensive but they are well worth it!

just my 2 cents

We fried Waytec's smittybuild winch on the first outing but I have heard they are better know.  You can get a nice Warn M8000 for pretty good deal these days and those winches last forever.

Princess auto carries the Superwinch EPi9 for 800$ (if they have it in stock).  I read a review on it and several other big name winches and it was one of the few that made it through the day of testing.
This is not 'Nam, this is wheeling.  There are rules.

I also vote Warn. Save your money, wait a few weeks, and watch the "for sale" section here. Used Warns pop up from time to time, and you can normally get a pretty good deal. I think that someone just sold a used 8274 for $650 or so. That's a whole lot of used winch for the price of a "use it three times and replace it" low end winch.
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

^^ agreed with w squared.  find your self a used warn winch in good condition.  Have it serviced/maintained and you should be set, and no doubt will outlast the other lesser brand winches.  And your cost would be close to what a new superwinch would cost.

my warn has been on two jeeps, bought used 9years ago for $500 and it's never let me down and I've put it through allot ( 24 hour winch feast, long pulls with 3 jeeps attached too it, etc).

Go with a Warn I have seen lots of cheep winches die very quickly and I have never seen a Warn die yet.
I had first generation smittybuilt and it was a pile of junk, the new ones are suppose to a lot better but mine burnt me bad in at a very bad time. I sent it back and got a Tabor 9K (basically a M8000) and I have never had an issue with it, and I have bone some long hard pulls.
Why does your Jeep say Toyota on it?

i had a warn 12000 on my truck when i had it, used it twice and it burnt up on me, sent it back, warn replaced it, never had a problem with the second one, might just be a case of what day of the week it was built on, that and how hard of pulls your making.

http://www.quadratec.com/products/92104_01_07.htm you can't beat this for a $140.00 more then what your looking at. I would also take a limited lifetime warranty over a limited 2 year anyday!

Yah I think you guys are right, I want a 10,000 lb Warn so I should wait until I can afford what a I want thanks for the advice.  One other question, back in the day I had (IIRC) a 12,000lb ramsey are they still around, it was a good winch then

I you used a hawse fairlead instead of the roller fairlead you push them into the bolt holes to cover them up.
