Thumping when not accelerating
« on: May 27, 2010, 07:59:49 PM »
I tried the search function but no one else seems to have had this issue.
If I'm accelerating my Jeep drives fine. As soon as I let of the gas I get a thump from what seems to be the rear drivers side. The thumping also depends on the speed/rotation of the tire. It just started yesterday morning and was fine the night before(axle, drive shaft, tire?)

I was Jeepless since 2006. So I had to make a tough decision; the wife, or get a Jeep. So glad to be a Jeep owner again! I still miss my FSJ the most

I would start by removing the rear DS (if possible w/o losing fluid on your jeep) and see if the noise goes away. If your jeep cannot be driven shaftless, I would inspect the rear ds carefully, u-joints, splines, double cardan if you got it for any signs of wear...good luck!
