I crashed!
« on: July 08, 2010, 08:33:17 AM »
Hey guys,
I am new to this city and this forum, I was hit by a drunk last night who didnt have insurance and now I have to get this fixed, and there is no way a dealership in this city will touch my rig. I read that Chanda is the place to go, how much is this going to cost me, to fix it completely and to get it back on the road.

Its driveable right now but as you can see it bent my arm back against my spring. no serious internal injuries though.

Guys I would GREATLY appreciate your advice!

Thanks again,
Chad

I don't know if it is the picture or not but it looks like your knuckle is bent, so you might want to start sourcing a new front axle because it will probably be cheaper.

yep.  its probalby bent too; that axle is shot.  looks like you got hit hard.

for your fenders, might be time to look aftermarket for a set of tube fenders, or hit PNP and the interwebs to find a set of red fenders that someone has kicking around after doing a tubefender swap.

Just talked to the guys at Chanda apparently Jay is out of commission for a while. Can you guys reccomend any other places? I can drive it fine its just the knuckle rubbing against my spring.

You can't drive it.  The balljoints are done.  Don't drive it!!!! You are fine now... but you won't be if you keep driving it.

I would look for a new axle...you're inner C might be messed up from a hit that hard.  Low pinion dana 30's are easy to come by so it shouldn't be to hard to find one and drop it in.   You're probably going to want to take a good look at the control arms and likely replace them too.  Steering will need to be done too.  All of these should be readily available as most guys upgrade all that when they lift.

It is not safe to drive.  As stated, if you drive it, you risk your wheel falling off because the ball joint is toast.

Someone on the site will likely have an axle you can install.  I have a housing you could have but it would be quicker and cheaper to find something complete and just bolt it in (my housing would require gears and someone to set them up).

You could try PM'ing bnine and see if he has time to help you out if you just want to get it done.  If you want to take a bit more time and do it yourself I'm sure someone in the club would let you use a garage for an afternoon and lend a hand in exchange for pizza and beer.

don't go through insurance.

they'll write it off.

unfortunately, 97 TJs aren't 'worth' as much as everyone wishes they were.  thats easily gonna be a quote of 4 - 5k in damage to fix at a shop.  and unless your gastank is full of gold, i dont' think they'd fix it...............

right now, Kijiji is your friend.  hit it and start looking for D30s out of TJs. theres a few out there.  then start looking for fenders etc.  call wreckers, etc.

i feel for you; situation really sucks, but you're going to have to get crafty to fix it on the cheap, or pay big bucks to get it done right.
