If your synthetic does break it is a lot less likely to hurt someone and it can be repaired by only sacrificing a few feet of line.  And from my experience with metal lines getting jammed and from pulling them uphills, I'll take synthetic.  My last metal line broke where it attaches to drum after a few pulls.  Not very fixable.

It think it really depends on the kind of wheeling you are going to do.  Both work.

Periwinkle !! haha.

Yeah I do like the steel better as far as looks.  However the periwinkle blue seems to have more benefits =/ to bad it doesn't come in hot pink, could make a barbie jeep while i'am at it...

Okay... hands down, when synthetic cable comes in HOT PINK I'll go synthetic  ;) (although, that would involve actually having a winch... oh, the things to do over the winter)

Ok so...

Warn M8000 for.. $539.00  Steel Cable

Or

Rugged Ridge Performance 8500/ with syn line (periwinkle blue!) for $500 ish

I'm leaning towards the RR Performance with Syn line.... However I know there is an army of sworn warn members.

I like the fact that the syn cable is light, less sag on my stock suspension.

My biggest worry is will i regret not going Warn.. haha???

Decisions Decisions.

2 cents please

Two questions (one cent each):

Have you ever heard anybody complain that they bought a Warn winch?
Have you ever heard anybody complain that they bought a Rugged Ridge winch?

Pretty sure no one has ever said they regret buying a Warn.  Ive been trying to find reviews/forums on the RR winch.  Cant find any negative comments.  Suppose it would be a leap of faith to go with RR vs Safety Net Warn.  Looks like Warn, could always upgrade the line next summer if I don't like the cable.

Buy the warn to start with. Upgrade the cable later if you want....or when someone offers you a great deal on a synthetic winch line.

stuck jeep + steel cable + a winch that works = jeep no longer stuck  :D

stuck jeep + really cool synthetic cable + a winch that stopped working = jeep still stuck  >:(

A quality winch is more important than how cool the line is. There are plenty of us that will offer some guidance on how to be relatively safe when using a steel winch cable.
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

What winch line would be best for a winch that's not being used much.. maybe 5-10 times a year.  Won't be doing much rock crawling.  Mostly Mud , and intermediate trails.  What ages better? Steel cable or Synthetic line.

Some deaths and many injuries have come from steal cable, never heard of one from synthetics... maybe they just have not been around long enough for historical data.

Another mind opening experience just yesterday...

http://jalopnik.com/5629380/extra-has-skull-sliced-open-on-transformers-3-set

Crappy, rusted, frayed cables should be garbaged.
We'll probably never find out the condition of that cable or what load was on it...but at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter, it broke.

Buy the Warn, with steel cable, use it for a couple years, then upgrade to synthetic. No use throwing out a perfectly good cable.

If you want a closer look at warn products, check out this Vid, inside view of "how they are made".

The one worry I have about synthetic is when you get into a situation where the cable needs to slide over rock.
