Inspiration to purchase a Jeep
« on: January 31, 2011, 12:42:42 AM »
Some of you may find this a bit well. Lame.
But, a Jeep is something I have always wanted since I was a little kid. However, last summer after spending some time in the Rockies with my dad partaking in our hobby, RC's, I snapped a few pictures that pushed me over the edge, and made me have to go and get myself my own Jeep. There were something about these pictures that made me want to experience them in real life.

What do you think? And what got you to purchase your first Jeep?

First Jeep was bought due to the fact it was cheap, I needed wheels and I wanted an SUV. Found out that people built them up after I paid $250 to have a new battery put in and I wanted to learn to fix things myself. Love it now, can't really imagine owning anything else (for the time being).

PS: You need to send me the info on the RC JK, I can't find anything.

The JK I was running on the last run was an Axial SCX-10 Honcho trail truck, can get kind of pricey but its the best truck out there with an unlimited amount of aftermarket support and parts,

Comes with some sort of toyota-hilux type body... Which didnt really fly in my book, so I went and bought first a Cherokee body, like in those pictures, and after I got the JK, ended up getting the scale JKU body, both made my proline.

I was getting too many speeding tickets, very close to losing my license.  Needed something that wouldn't go over 110 so I bought a jeep.  Then I drove over a curb and got 6 demerits for stunting, lost my lisence for 3 months.
I just can’t resist a good mud hole!  🤦

have I told you you're my hero lately Jamey???????

i bought a Wrangler because I kept getting my pretty body panels on the Zj dented and scratched;  theres a lot less of those on a doorless/topless wrangler ;)

I got a Jeep to get out and get to those obscure/isolated fishing holes, without packing in for 2 days. I decided on a Cherokee because everyone was running the Wranglers, and I didn't want to jump on the bandwagon. It wasn't because of the extra room, or anything like that.
if we were smart with our money we wouldn't own Jeeps.

Theres extra room in these things? Oh I guess there is, if i took out my 2 days worth of packing from the last hunting / fishing trip I was on :) I guess its time to clean her.... I happened to be in the market for a new to me vehicle and spotted a shiny XJ sitting on a lot. I pulled in and ended up reversing it up a very steep and icy hill at the dealership because the lot attendant was too scared to do so. It was at that point I was sold on the concept of buying into a vehicle that Id spend more money on in modification than it would ever be worth :)
I did a Google search for "hot trannies" but nothing came up about oil coolers  :o

Worrying too much about mpg with a Jeep is similar to worrying about your sister's virginity. An ok thing to be concerned about but...

And what got you to purchase your first Jeep?

Just moved to Alberta and needed a cheap ride so I went to a sketchy used lot in Edmonton, found a crappy old XJ which was about the cheapest on the lot.  Dealer wanted 700 bucks but I negotiated down to $580 and drove it away.  It was my daily driver for over 2 years, including a trip to Whitehorse and finally died on the way to Bow Cycle one day.  But I was so impressed that I've bought 3 more since  ;D

My cousin took me for a ride in his YJ when I was 12 or so, and I was sold.

The first time I looked into buying one I was still in University and it wasn't a feasible purchase, so I put it to the back of my mind....finally bought one last summer!

Have a good buddy on this site that persuaded me to buy an XJ. Damn him! Now I'm hooked on the Jeep brand. I have since owned 3 xj's and on my second jk rubicon. Most ride like crap but I'm ok with that.

I got hooked when I originally bought "Blasphemy" at the police Auction for $200.00 ,.. motor was about shot, tranny didn't shift properly and it was rusty,... I went out to a AURS Clean up and then a couple of people took me out for some wheeling,... 2 flats and one destroyed spare and I was hooked,... the rest is history. I have owned at least 5 XJ's, one ZJ, one TJ and one MJ. Currently I have 2 XJ's , the MJ and the Wifey is in the TJ.

I may have an issue,..........

Wow, lots of good responses! Ya I had a old civic with an engine swap and turbo that got me into to many police incidents... Wheeling is a far better motoring pastime!
