Wonder what it means for other companies in the industry, they were pretty darn big and popular. They were probably one of my last picks to fail.

Even companies making first rate product can fail - and "big and popular" in the off road parts market still isn't all that big in comparison to most other companies. All of this is leaving out the quality control issues that RE has had in the past few years.

Good point, I was just wondering what effect  the crappy economy (more so in the states) is having on these companies. It would be interesting to know . Logically suspension kits are something you are not going to spend on if your tight on cash.

I must have got a good kit. I abused a XJ 3.5 kit for over 3 years now and never had an issue with the arms or joints. They where a good kit to start with when I up grad to a larger lift and long arms they were not even in the discussion.

RE was one of the few "jeep centered" lift companies.  WSquared is right - even the big boys - Superlift/Rancho/Skyjacker are not big in comparison to most companies.  And they make lifts for just about any vehicle.   I doubt there was more than 70-80 employees at RE.

The odd thing is Jeep sales are up higher than ever - so consumers are buying the vehicles, just not the lift kits.  I suspect they will file chapter 11 and reopen in the next few months.

Its a tough business.

I hope they reopen, there's not too many track bars out there using a 5/8" bolt on the front mount for the rod end. So going to another brand would be a big PITA.

Hah, no kidding. Would be swapping out the track bar mounts with PnP specials on lots of Heeps...good thing I saved one from the last parts xj.
