Well I switch everything from the drivers side to the passenger side. By everything I mean everything from the spindle out to see if the slipping would transfer to the PS. Guess what happened, thats right the slipping was still on the DS so I don't have a clue anymore. My plan in the morning is to pull the diff cover off again and see what the hell is going on in there. Any ideas?

Do you have a locker in the front?

Yep I have a brand new Aussie that I replaced when all this stuff started. After it happened the first time and the hub tuned out to be ok I replaced the locker. I am going to pull it apart again and see what the hell is going on.

Well I fixed the problem, I decided that since it is a trail only rig I removed the Aussie and welded up the old spider gears. Guess what no more slipping or noise. It still bothers me but atleast I know it was locker related. Maybe the case was screwed.

Having tried it in the past I strongly advise against spooling a front axle, even if it is just an offroad rig. I did that on an old 4x4 of mine and it caused me nothing be grief. Broke lots of axle shafts, popped lots of u-joints, couldn't turn on slippery surfaces like in the snow or mud as the vehicle just plows straight ahead, wouldn't track on a slippery side hill. Pulled it out within months.

Unlocking one hub didn't help either, just caused it to pull hard in the direction of the one hub locked in- was always fighting it and in the end I would pop the u-joint of the hub locked in as all the torque was being sent thru that shaft instead of being split over two shafts.

Unless all you do with that rig is straight line runs thru the mud you will be regretting it.

I tried that theory and locked my front ARB and locked one hub and went for a drive and it didn't pull at all.  I then unlocked and locke the other side and no pulling either.  Not enough oooomph in the 4L for torque steer, especially with massive tires.  Feels no different than running 4WD open/open as then one wheel will be pulling as well.

Any more crap from my ARBs and I am selling them and spooling at the same time I order my hydro assist.

I have run a welded up front diff before in another CJ and it was alright. It will stay like this till my son can afford a new case style locker.
