Locking hubs for '13 JK Sport?
« on: June 18, 2013, 11:11:30 PM »
I tried search function, but didn't find much.  I am new to upgrading Jeeps, just wondering approximately what it would cost me to get all around locking hubs like a Rubicon?  Have a 2013 JK Sport with no real mods other than the bumper and tires/wheels.  Should I worry about other upgrades first perhaps?  Thanks!!!

Rub icons don't have locking hubs . They have lockers . If you have a credit card you can get them too
Getting grumpier every day.
99 XJ - It's got sum stuff ,Noel free stuff..
98 ZJ - It's just ugly, but bigger than your Rubi

Okay so what is the difference between lockers and locking hubs?  I looked it up, seems lockers and locking hubs are the same thing except lockers are automatic?  Maybe I'll just check out a place like Modern Motors to get a clear explanation without so much typing lol

Completely different things.   Lockers help off road... locking hubs generally help on road.  Lockers connect your left and right axle together to equally distribute power to the both sides of the axle when off road.  Locking hubs allow your wheels to rotate without spinning your axles and driveshaft while on road.  Use google to find all sorts of diagrams pictures and video to explain this further.

Have you taken your jeep off road yet?  If not... you don't need to worry about either. Short answer is a "locker" locks the diff so both the right and left wheel spin at the same speed together, removing the differentiation. Have you heard of a posi?  Think of a locker as a posi on manroids.
A locking hub is a device to unlock the wheel from the axle so it can free wheel thus better milage and turning when in 2 wheel drive.
Hope that helps

Neither of these items will be cheap. Neither of these items should be particularly high on your list at this point in time.

Put good tires on your jeep, maybe get a bumper and winch, and get out and wheel it. Spend that lockering hubbarential credit card money on gas, and the driving skill you gain will let you walk past people that don't know how to drive their Rubicons. (says the guy with a Rubicon).
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

if lockers are important you shoulda got a rubi........ unless you're doing the work yourself it'll almost cost you the same.........

Wow, great info and advice from all!  Thanks guys, yeah I've done some mediocre wheeling so far with little issues.  I do do my own work to better know my Jeep and avoid ridiculous labour costs, but yeah I may invest in other thing first now that I know more... thanks again for all the tips guys!  Learning a lot so far between offroading and this forum!

like all have said, i went wheeling once and there was a guy with open diffs from and back, he was going threw things that a locked rigg couldnt go and needed to be pulled out.

wheels, winch so you dont need any ones help or crap, after that u can put a lift and go from there

All this says is the driver with the locked hubs can't wheel worth a sheet and the other guy has more ball hair.

Yup. Driver skill is the most important factor, but after that lockers can make a big difference.
