It's pretty much the same... but you get choose your options with the Venture... hardware & software. The Legend come with some basic stuff...

Just to add, the software is free at Garmin's site (plus there are better alternatives out there that are free) and also comes with any mapping products that you want.

The only real problem with the 76 is that it only has 8 MB of memory, so will not hold very many maps.

That was the only thing that really turned me off from that one. But I can't find any info on the Venture if it has any built in memory or not. I'm assuming it does, cause I believe it comes with a base map preloaded.

The Venture has built in memory ONLY for waypoints, tracklogs and the Base map.

You need to add a micro-SD card to add detailed maps.  So add $25 to get a 256 MB card.
