Front Axle
« on: March 11, 2008, 01:33:42 PM »
Started looking for a front dana 60 high pinion, but that prooved to be like looking for gold or they cost as much.  My next idea is to use a 79ish Ford Bronco front dana 44 and cut it down so I can use Wagoneer axles in it.  I dont now much about this diff so any info or ideas would be great.  Whatever I put in will be locked and eventually running larger than 37".

I started to do this(had the Ford diff all cleaned up and ready to cut) then when I got to measuring and checking I found the Waggy diff fit much better. Center section is pushed out to driver's side more and the low pinion gives more clearance at oil pan/exhaust/pinion. I had beat up my exhaust pipe a few times with the D30 but so far no problems with the Waggy D44. Also better gear selection with LP.

IMO, Hi pinion is highly overrated.

BTW my setup was an '89 XJ, 9" lift, 36" Iroks and teh D44 was from a Wide Trac Waggy(65" WMS).
