Finally getting going on Denise's build. For those that dont know, Denise is Mrs Bnine. She goes by Spyder on the board.
Previously it was built with a RK long arm, 33 eng tuck, kilby tank, AR's front and rear, super 35/30 arbs, 488,s currie steering, outboard shocks, WE beadlocks, and 33" toyos.
This jeep worked really well, and lasted this way for about 4 years, and a handfull of competitions before it finally started to break axle components.
So we decided it was time for the 35 to go. She wanted 35's next, to help her keep up better in the comps. In 2 straight comps, she was always the only person to be on 33's.
Being a 2.5 litre, 35's create headaches, unless its a trail only rig. We needed more gearing so she can still drive to trail runs.
Only being on 35's, we didnt want to kill all the clearence by installing anything bigger then a 44. Since I also run spidertrax 609's, they became the obvious choice. 538 gears for the wee motor, lightweight for the little motor, and the same amount of clearence she had previously on the d35.
Not to mention we will share the same parts, which is just good business when maintaining and wheeling two jeeps. :D :D
The jeep in its previous state.

Right now we are in the nasty stage of the build. Grind grind grind.
Removed old poly p shock brackets. I will plate these in and build hoops for her Fox 2" x 12" coil overs.

Front stock bracket removed. These are fun, not as fun as the big dumb stupid trackbar mount, but lots dust sucking ear wrenching fun none the less.

I gotten started on building her axles. Here is the rear. Just brackets and axle shafts to go.

The tire and rim combo are a Poison spider 18" beadlock with 35" toyo's.

The final build will be 609's front and rear on 12" coilovers, a small stretch out back (2-3") with a genrite tank, an atlas 5:1 and PSC hydro assist.
I'll try to update this as much as possible.

Billy, have you run the Toyo MT's?
I got a real good line on some for a good price.
I just don't know what their like.
Nice rear end on your MRS. :o -- I mean the MRS' Jeep 8)

Smart alec Fred :):)
As for toyo's, we are on our 6 set of Toyo's, 4 of which were MT's. Her old tires were 33 toyo's, I run 38 toyos, I ran 33 toyo mt's on my 1ton, and am now on 33 m55 toyo's.
I've also helped set up about 6 freinds on toyo's. Every one of them is happy with them.
Honestly Fred, out of BFG mt, ats, tsls, ltbs, boggers, and any other tire I've with or on, the Toyo has been the best all around tire I've ever used.
Only drawback is weight. You wont be disappointed if you get a set.

Nice grinding job ;D

Nice grinding job ;D
Well, it will be once I finish it. ;) ;D ;D

um tech question
are u moving the back spring buckets ont he top so the back spring dont "accodian" and is that a good thing too do
-
Coilovers = no spring.

Why the new wheels or just because they are poison spiders? ;)

Bolt patern change? Just a guess.
-
Bolt pattern change, the fact that the brakes on the 609's require a minimum of 17's, and the fact that they are poison spyder.
She lllllllooooovvvessss poison spyder stuff. :):)

Fug says Coilovers = no spring.
wrong word on my part ( :o)
what i meant was is there any benifit of moving the coilover upper attachment on the frame rail back a little so that the back coilovers dont accordian during flexing or just daily driving . If u look at the back coilovers the upper back attachment is sitting a little forward on the frame, so if u cut it off and move it so the coil over is straight up and down ,,, ive seen it done and was wondering if you gain much out of it, like a smoother ride
if this makes sense to anyone or am i just not saying it right
-
Best case scenario for coilovers is straight up and down.
Unfortunately, that is hard to do on a TJ and still keep the body and frame in place.
The drawback to tipped coilovers is it reduces the effectiveness of the springs and shock dampening. Essentially you have two planes force acting on the CO. Vertical, and horizontal. Which of course, will slightly reduce the units ability to dampen the vertical forces.
To compensate for the reduced effectiveness, you have to increase you spring rate, and stiffen up your shock valving.
The is only noticeable with 15 degrees or more angle on the shock. Below that, it is pretty much negligable.
The coilovers on this jeep will be tipped at about 10 degrees or less, for tire clearence, frame clearence, and to avoid cutting into the tub.
Short answer to your question is no, you wont improve your ride by putting the shock straight up and down, but you can reduce how effective the shock is if you put to much angle on it and dont compensate the spring rates and valving properly.
That help?

yea that does
thanks alot
i could pick your brain all day ;D ;D ;D ;D
only way to learn anything is to ask questions as my grandfather use to say
and im too young to make all the mistakes my self and not get hurt
-
I dont mind, ask away. I wouldnt put it up here if I was bothered by questions :)

Those little wee pizza tray's are disc brakes or rotors????
You sure??
-
Looking good as usual Billy. Those beadlocks are beautiful! :D

i beleive there just disk break gaurds for now.. the disks were not in the pictures
-
Bill, I noticed you removed the old poly french....I know you still plan to keep COs within the body. What is your new plan? Hoop off the frame/cage and punch a 4" hole for the CO to poke through? Or perhaps with 12, you will be able to build a hoop inside the actual wheel well and not have to cut any tub?
-
Yeah, going to do hoops Joe. I have to top mount one side of the hoop, but I fish plate and gusset the snot out of them.
I should be able to keep it all under the tub by using 12's.

Huh?

Thanks Bezz :)

Nice rig Denise.
You gonna be whippin some boys butts this year!
-
Any updates? ;)
-
Nothing to speak of. Just some grinding and bracket cutting.
Oh, and Dom emptied the transmission onto the floor :):)

Sounds like you need to increase the bacon rations to ensure good work!

I like multitasking... why not emptying the tranny and taking it our at the same time... ;)
It needed a fluid change... I'll do that Thursday

But you did not break any bolts this time, right?

keep the updates rollen i like the info
given me a idea for my toy
-
Perhaps an update is in order Bill?
-
Ha!!!
Spose so. Unfortunately funds have been shy since the downturn so progress is slow.
I built the rear axle, suspension brackets, and control arms.
Denise plasma'd the jigsaw puzzle pieces to fill the frame notches in. Otherwise things sre pretty slow :):)
