Title: best front diff options

looking for idea's on what would be the best front diff swap options for a tj. I want to keep the track width as close to a stock TJ as possible as I dont have the means to shorten and modify the axles too much on my own.

So, the idea would be a front Dana 44 or Dana 60.

In the mean time I am looking for a direct bolt in TJ44 but dont have a lot of cash, and am not in a hurry. So entertaining the idea of building up a front from the scrap yard, unless I magically find a front TJ44.

The shortest track width 44's I know of would be out of an IH or Bronco. But thats where the knowledge ends.

I dont know what would be a good donor for a 60.

Dont get me wrong, I am not too much of a lazy guy, I am doing my own research online, but would like a few pointers from the experiened guys here to help me narrow my search.

Depends on how big you want to go as to where you go D44 or D60 or something else. Check out the Wagoneer D44s, slightly narrower I believe

is the wagoneer's diff the same size as all FSJ?

Try and find an 80's wagoneer dana 44. They are a little beefier than a scout 44 and it will be driver side drop. It will be 60" WMS to WMS.  Try and find one with manual hubs. I think most are except for a couple years which I think was 83 and 84 , they had some kind of vacume setup IIRC. Some even have flat top knuckles. The bolt pattern is 6 on 5 1/2 so you will have to deal with that. Hope this helps.
