Are there any Chrysler dealers in or close to Calgary that are closing? Ive read about some sick deals to be had.
-
The only one I have heard about was the GM dealer in Three Hills.
-
Three GM dealers in calgary got the axe,i have not heard of any Dodge stores getting cut.
-
Stampede
Northland
Shaganappi
GM dealers that got the 'letter'.
-
Both shaganappi's or just one? I am a fan of the general but there were way to many dealerships in Calgary. Three Hills shouldn't have been closed IMO its the only dealership in that town and Drumheller would be the next closest place.
-
i do not know.
i never knew there were 2. Actually i thought Northland was Shaganappi?
But i was told those 2 were given letters.

Northland was a Pontiac, buick and GMC dealer, and Shag is a chevy dealer. That will be interesting because I leased my truck from Northland

i think closures are not in effect til mid year 2010 :-\

I work at Platinum Mitsubishi and from what our General Manager said Chrysler Canada is playing dirty. they aren't really telling any of the dealers either way. Chrysler financial was folded in to GMAC. and the word is Chrysler told GMAC which dealers to give loans and which ones not to.
I know in the US there are a bunch of dealers that have till June 6th to get rid of all there stock there was an Article on CNN.com about it.
I wouldn't be surprised if there was at least 1 chrysler dealer that closed in Calgary. not sure which one tho.
just a reminder tho for those looking for deals, resale on American cars in horrible as they keep under cutting there prices. Also Chrysler and GM both can't get parts there Vehicles Chrysler is Worse but GM is soon to follow. even if your new car has warranty it could be up to 6months before you get your part to fix your Vehicle.
and honestly would you really buy anything from a company that is going bankrupt? I am a little biased but it just doesn't sound like a smart decision to me. it dont make sense.
It will be fun to see what happens in the next few years in the Car industry.
-
If I knew there was one closing in Calgary and needing to sell i would be bumping up the purchase of my JK. But i guess i'll have to wait and see.
-
With all the Gm dealers closing I wonder how many are trying to pick up other companies. A couple more Toyota Delores would be great.
Also I was reading that Land Rover and Mercedes will be bringing more of their other more affordable lines to North Amarica.
I am really hoping for the Defenders at the same price as a GM, Ford or Dodge.
-
I'll second the comment about chrysler parts, The last few days I have been trying to get stuff ordered there have been major backorders. We have had to go to wreckers for used parts. I really really hate having to do that. But no choice on some parts.

Unfortunately, my 1980 Mercedes 300SD Turbo diesel was three times the car of the newer "affordable" lines. :(
-
ya but they are still better then anything Gm or Ford build. The only two things good about Chrysler nowadays is the Cummings that they don't build and JKs and some will argue that.
-
My neighbor works(ed) at Northland. They got the axe.... but it will be turned into a KIA dealership. He has a job with them, but he is pretty sure he is going back to Ford.
KIA?! Seriously?!!!! WTF?
-
Shaganappi SOUTH got the axe,the original shag in the NW is safe.I hope they can restructure sucsesfully,we had a bad experience with the 2000 chev venture i bought for my wife,we replaced it with a Toyota Sienna on the word of wonderful toyota quality,it was no better than the chev!required a replacement engine @130,000 kms,had constant a/c problems, and even a few electical gremlins.Another friend bought a 07 Camry that has had transmission problems since new Toyota cant seem to fix.I dont want to pick on Toyota as some of the other Japaneese companys are also slipping in quality (a nissan titan owner was compaining bitterly about his truck to me the other day)The quality of the american brands has improved vastly, the jap cars may win in resale, but most of that gets eaten up in much higher maintenence costs.Myself i will continue to buy from GM and Chrysler.
-
Wheeling a KIA sounds so wrong, maybe at the end of all off this and the dust clears the jeep will have a more erupean feel with decent desiel in it. I think in a few years our car market is going to be a different place.
-
northland pontiac
shaganappi south
airdrie pontiac
stampede pontiac
all 3 saturn dealers
thats all i heard

What I've read is that although dealers might not be on "the list", but that doesn't mean the company will play fair. So if they decide that they want to close a dealer, they simply raise the amount of vehicles they need to sell in the contract above what they actually can sell.
Closed for "under-performing".
-
That's why i buy older and older vehicle's - keeping heritage alive.
I try not to get caught up in recession and closing business's and so on, just fill's up my time that i could use fixxing those old vehicle's :D ;D
-
They are closing Chrysler dealers in Canada. I'm sure that 2-3 in Calgary and the surrounding area will be closing. It only targets dealers selling less than 100 cars yearly. Also, the rebates and incentives DO NOT change if a dealer is closing. ( different in the USA ) The best way to get a deal is buy and add special vehicle, OR buy one from someone who will show you the invoice and the rebates. Also, if the dealer can get you employee discounts or fleet numbers for your purchase it makes the deal better.
-
I've not yet heard ANY official notification about any dealers being closed in Canada. As many of you know I'm a manager at a dealer here in Calgary. The fact of the matter is that some of the smaller scale stores might not be able to 'survive the storm' due to funding issues. It's my opinion that this might be a strategy that Chrysler has engineered in order to 'weed out' some of the weaker dealers(good old Darwinism).
Even with all the confusion we are doing our best to operate 'business as usual' as much as possible ;).

Dealers are private companies, correct?
So what does it matter to Chrysler LLC, (or whatever they call themselves now) how many private companies are selling vehicles for them?
-
I think it will mean that the dealers will be able to charge more for a vehicle as they will not be competing with other Chrysler dealers.
It could also put Chrysler in a position to charge the dealers more in fees aswell.
-
the dealerships are privatly owned. but they have to buy vehicles and parts from chrysler. some of you may notice that some chrysler dealers are 5 star and some arent. that 5 star rating is there for a reason. it pretty much means that the sales and service departments have done very good business with chrysler. so chrysler gives them better buying power and better deals on parts and such. and the 5 star dealers get better training and tools much sooner. theres more to it of course but thats the jist.
i as well work in a chrysler dealer and i havent heard a thing about closing any dealers in canada. the Fiat deal is a go and i think that will help us out a lot. selling some econo boxes to stay out of the red will keep the jeeps rolling of the line. things will be on the up and up soon enough. i for one am not going to waste time worrying about the issues in our economy. crap happens. deal with it and move on. life doesnt stop.
-
I noticed that a lot of stuff is not on the shelves now. That and it would seem that some dealers are jacking up parts prices to make up for lot car revenue. :o Dunno if this is true but I wouldnt be surprised considering the prices I was quoted in the last few days.

Same as it does for GM. They are representing your product, if they are not doing a good job you get rid of them. If they can't move product and their they have low CSI numbers why keep them, let the good dealers survive. get rid of the bad ones. I know why stampede was shut down, I don't know about northland and shaganappi, but you gotta figure it was the same reasoning.
I deal with shaganappi at least once a week, they have always treated us very well so I don't undestand that one.
-
off topic, but im sure i was going down mcloud about a month and a half back....im pretty sure it read "get a truck and get a free avenger" i was like no way....i didnt do a turn around...but i totally thought my mind was playin tricks on me....no i was not smokng or drinking anything......
-
I believe that after Shagannapi South lost the McKay name their sales tanked.

I know that parts are very scarce indeed! My 2003 Rubicon has been at Tower Chrysler for a couple of months now waiting on a transfer case. Covered under warranty and they still don't have one in North America to spare. Very frustrating as they keep "2 weeking" me to death!! I have already lost over $1500 in car payments and insurance. Hope that they don't put a five star service award banner up for 2009....

Stories like this go a long way towards explaining why Chrysler is in the state that it is, and why they will be trimming dealerships.
You're still making payments on a vehicle that is still under warranty...yet it's been out of service for MONTHS. I'm willing to wager that the dealership (and Chrysler) aren't doing anything to compensate for the fact that your vehicle (under warranty) has been sitting there, useless to you.
-
An Instructor I know from Nait who teaches in the automotive area for apprentices...told me that there are 7 Chrysler dealers in the Edmonton area closing.
(there are 9 including Leduc around Edmonton)

That does suck. But i have heard its now happening in many places. Parts are not forthcoming North American wide. You kinda got caught in the middle of this mess. i am sure Dealers are fumed as well.

You sure about that? I live in the NW and ride the CTrain past Shaganappi every day. Yesterday they parked a bunch of vehicles on the grass facing Crowchild Trail and had a banner up which read "Massive Everything Must Go Sale" or something to that effect.
-
They might just be clearing out of both lots to make room to completely clean out the North store

As an update, went over for the third time to get some sort of answer. The new date that they gave me was July 15th. I told them that their credibility was not the best. I also suggested that they "Buy one now" on Ebay and eat whatever the extra expense is...
I have a meeting with the owner tomorrow if the purchase is not authorized. (I am starting to go thru Rubicon Withdrawal, hehehe)

Given how long they've had it "under repair" for the same problem, you may want to take a look into the possibility of a "lemon law". I'm not sure of there's legislation of this type in Canada, but I know that in the US, each state seems to have specific parameters for vehicles. If it's in the shop for X number of days total during "Y" amount of time, or if it goes to the shop more than "Z" number of times for the same problem, then they are obliged to buy it back from you.
-
Might have some action! Went to Regional Service Mgr to get them to buy a Xfer case immediately. I suggested EBay "Buy it now". Keeping my fingers crossed that I will get it out of the shop by month end. Interesting that they would send me an electronic phone reminder that my Jeep is overdue maintenance! lol!

I see Capital Jeep is one of them. :D
At least those crooks won't be shafting any more Chrysler people with their antics.
I hope they enjoy the new building & location to sell used cars ...
Gotta love karma :)

All's well that ends well! Modern Motor's to the rescue! Tower bought the Xfer case from them. It was ready in 4 days and I have even tested it out to make sure that there aren't any bugs in it, lol!! Thanks Tower for making it right.
