I was pretty certain that all the blocks were the same.  I have an XJ motor in my YJ

Defferent serp systems, so the years need to be clsoe for the ability to interchange the serps stuff.

Depends on the model years.  Between  95  to 98 blocks are the same.  The 99 to 2004 changed.  The differences would be mounting accessories and motor mounts.  It will work but you might have to do a lot of fabricating.  I have been searching and this is the thing that has turned up.  I am trying to put a 99 Cherokee engine in a 2000 TJ.  Lot of differences but I think it will work
Good Luck

If you can use the late model head, that will save most the headaches on your swap canfour. That will allow you to bolt up your coilpacks and intake. The you can run the old serp system to accomodate the change in water pump mounting.

There are other ways to do it, and I've done them, but using the newer head on an older block, and then using a 99 and down serp is the simplest by far.

I am running a 98 block, new style head, a new style serp system. To do it over again I would have just run an old system to avoid running the custom water pump I currently have setup. (old pump with 2000 and up nose swapped on to except 2000 and up pulley and fan)
