and you think you need this because ???
oh how much $$$ is this kit
-
it is 189 dollars and it improves better idoling and throttle response, fuel economy and better air and gas mixture :)

fuel economy and better air and gas mixture
Are you sure? Might want to ask Bnine... ;) I'm sure he can add some real world expertise.
-
Shure if he can tell me the real deal, i would love too but, who is he or how can i get a hold of him

I'm going to suggest that if you're looking for better throttle response out of your JK's minivan engine, you can chip it, put on a CAI, and a free flowing exhaust. That should net you about 1/2 HP for every $100 you spend...maybe.
To be honest, I would want to know exactly what parts are in the kit before I started shelling out dollars for ignition "improvements" that are not part of a comprehensive system that adresses all of the elements involved. If you want a modification that will pay for itself in fuel economy, then buy some smaller, inexpensive street tires for your Jeep. :)
Or you can put a blower on it and net about 1 HP for every $100 spent. You might want to wait until your warranty is up before doing that.
-
well i do have super chip on it, i have cold air intake, i have gibson exhaust,
and the ignition kit comes with , the Distributor LIVE WIRE” plug wires that open the plug to .065.
-
Well, I guess it's worth a shot then. If you've already chipped it, put on a CAI, and done a cat back, there isn't much left other than a blower...or a hemi swap ;)
Me, I'll just poke along in the slow lane with my bone-stock minivan engine.

is a realy mini van engin in the jeep JK?
that is so stuped that they did that......
Oh and would you go with NGK spark plugs?
-
I don't know what other platforms Chrysler puts that engine into (Heeps would know...care to chime in?), bu it sure ain't a "truck" engine. It needs to rev higher than the 4.0 before it starts producing a respectable amount of torque. Then again, it will handle higher revs far better than the 4.0.
I would far rather have an inline six in my Jeep, but I understand why I've got what I've got. I didn't buy my Jeep to achieve high speeds on the highway... or to climb mountain passes without downshifting. :-[
If you seriously want a significant performance increase over what the stock engine offers, then save your shekels and get a blower or do a hemi swap. Other than that there is not a lot than you can do to the 3.8 to increase performance. On the upside, you can buy complete builder's kits for doing both of those, and lots of pople have done them.
-
and how much does the hemi and the blower gos for?
-
many thousands of dollars!
-
Five thousand for a blower.
Minimum five thousand for the Hemi swap kit...but you still have to find the donor engine.
No labour is included in that pricing.
If you're doing a hemi swap, you will probably also want to consider your driveline. Hemi +large tires + heavy foot = broken Dana 30.

yaa well I am not that of hard core, or have the money, it would be sweet....
I have a friend that got the ignition kit, and he say that there is a big change in the start and the idling is mother, he did noticed a better reaction in the motor when he was driving from the spot, so i think it might be a good buy
-
as far as i know the 3.8L only comes in caravans and the newer wranglers, 2007 up JK's.
if you have a chip, do you have the electronic throttle ramped up to be more agressive? if your chip cant do this then try a programmer or the Sprint Booster. i personally dont care for drive-by-wire. poor response off idle. doesnt feel right to me.
the ignition upgrade will be minimal. your friend may have had a worn ignition system and needed any upgrade. but its your money so give it a shot and let us know.
-
I hav the programer from superchips, and what do you mean by "electronic throttle ramped ".
-
The "throttle" on a JK does not actualy control the flow of fuel and air into the engine. The gas pedal is just how you ask the computer (politely) to add more fuel and air so that you can have some power. ???
By "ramping up" the throttle or putting on one of the "sprint booster" devices, you amplify the throttle position signal that reaches th computer...in essence, the computer responds to your request for fuel and air faster and more aprubtly. Doing this won't get you any extra power, and will likely hurt your fuel economy...but it may provide a perceived increase in performance according to your "butt dyno". :-[

They did it because it was a tested and relatively reliable engine that was appropriately sized for the jk and was fuel efficient enough to meet modern requirements...of course it is not ideal but to me this is better than a) a new unproven design or b) paying a lot more for the jk due to it's fancy new engine or c) ???
They don't sell enough jks to warrant designing an engine just for this platform (yet)
I am happy with the stock jk engine...not wowed but if I wanted a hot rod I wouldn't have bought a jeep...as a seat of the pants comparo, the stock jk (manual) feels more powerful than a manual 4.0 litre XJ with stock (bad) gearing but feels less powerful than a TJ with 4.0 and 4.10's
