my cb quit transmitting , it just sends garble (ch 10 anyway) - receives nice and clear - my antenna is a 50ohm magnetic mount, its a two piece w/adjustable length via set screw which was loose and therefore in the shorter length position ...
can send garble but receive clear be a symptom of antenna out of tune ?
-
sounds like bad mic
-
We forgot to exchange info :) I was on the run last Saturday.
Sounds like a mic more than a short, but it was hard to tell in the confusion going on before the run.
-
wonder if I can just buy a mic ... they cant be worth much ...
-
Yup...head on down to the Road King. Talk to the Old Dude who owns/runs the CB shop...he can fix you up, maybe even find ur problem if it ain't the mic !! ;)
-
Yeah, Dean is pretty good with CB radios and repairs.

Tink.......what all is involved with the Ham st up and approx cost ? $$$$$$
Sorry...... :-[ Didn't mean to jack ur thread YJ !!
-
Perhaps another thread? After getting the operators license, the equipment costs vary from not much more than a CB to pretty pricey! ($1000+ for the radio itself before antennas, wiring etc.) I can put up some URL's in the new thread.

thanks for the tip(s) guys - short/bad mic makes sense ... will drop by the
road king maybe he can save it
not up on ham either , last I heard you needed big 30ft antenna etc and
a license ...

At least CB's are cheap if that one is busticated!
I created a new thread/post in this area to start a technical Amateur/Ham post.

Is there a power meter on your radio... if it doesn't show increased power (watts) when you push the transmit button, then it's not the mic it's the transmitter....

In the past I have had the same problem due to a bad ground on the CB and it was grounding out through the antenna.
I the same problem again now garbled sending. As per our club radio expert, my antenna is fine, my mic is fine, my radio is toast. They are cheaper to by a new one than to try to have it fixed. Time for a new CB for me. Borrow someone else's mic and see if that works. It will tell you if it is the problem or not.

Mine was a broken solder joint in the TX circuit... but mine has a TX meter and I could see there was no TX power... your's is sounding like a mic problem though...
