cb - receive ok but cant send - tune ?
« on: August 25, 2008, 10:25:19 PM »
my cb quit transmitting ,  it just sends garble (ch 10 anyway) - receives nice and clear - my antenna is a 50ohm magnetic mount,  its a two piece w/adjustable length via set screw which was loose and therefore in the shorter length position ...

can send garble but receive clear be a symptom of antenna out of tune ?

We forgot to exchange info :)   I was on the run last Saturday.

Sounds like a mic more than a short, but it was hard to tell in the confusion going on before the run.

Perhaps another thread?  After getting the operators license, the equipment costs vary from not much more than a CB to pretty pricey!  ($1000+ for the radio itself before antennas, wiring etc.)  I can put up some URL's in the new thread.

At least CB's are cheap if that one is busticated!

I created a new thread/post in this area to start a technical Amateur/Ham post.

Is there a power meter on your radio... if it doesn't show increased power (watts) when you push the transmit button, then it's not the mic it's the transmitter....

In the past I have had the same problem due to a bad ground on the CB and it was grounding out through the antenna.

I the same problem again now garbled sending. As per our club radio expert, my antenna is fine, my mic is fine, my radio is toast. They are cheaper to by a new one than to try to have it fixed. Time for a new CB for me. Borrow someone else's mic and see if that works.  It will tell you if it is the problem or not.

Mine was a broken solder joint in the TX circuit... but mine has a TX meter and I could see there was no TX power...  your's is sounding like a mic problem though...
