Every person will have a different opinion on this, but my opinion is a Chev power plant with Chev injection for ease of aftermarket parts and wiring installation. It's tougher (only my opinion!) shoehorning Ford stuff into non-Ford vehicles than it is to transplant a Chev V8 into something else.
My boss has swapped a few 4.3L V6 Chev (with a carburator) engines into various CJ's and YJ's over the years and swears by that V6. Enough power and adequate gas mileage. Check in the FOR SALE section, I listed a T-case with a Turbo 400 transmission adapter in there.
