V8 Swap

Looking to swap a V8 into a 97 TJ. Starting to research through the net and JP Magazine. Wondering about your opinion on the swap. (Maybe a 302 with C4 Tranny)

Every person will have a different opinion on this, but my opinion is a Chev power plant with Chev injection for ease of aftermarket parts and wiring installation.  It's tougher (only my opinion!) shoehorning Ford stuff into non-Ford vehicles than it is to transplant a Chev V8 into something else.

My boss has swapped a few 4.3L V6 Chev (with a carburator) engines into various CJ's and YJ's over the years and swears by that V6.  Enough power and adequate gas mileage.  Check in the FOR SALE section, I listed a T-case with a Turbo 400 transmission adapter in there.

My two cents

thanks for the reply...a Chev V8 is definety in mind....What about an AMC V8....360. I don't want to do too much fabricating. I know swapping to a V8 is a tedious task...but i gotta have some V8 aggression and power so i can chuck mud from here to New Brunswick

I agree with henry stick with a chevy v8,if you need parts you can go to 7-11 and practically get anything for it.If you want to up grade carb to throttle body you can easier. Also make sure your tranny can handle the horsepower.

ha ha ..

Chev is easy ... Ford ..well . more difficult.  I have been out of jeeps for a bit . .but I just put a chevy drive train in my yota Pickup and it works awsome ...  and infact .. am now building a Blown 427 to put in it ... along with lots of frame boxing etc .. should be a beast .anyway.... either go carb'd or TBI if you go anythin newer .. your just asking for lots of wiring ..and more complications .....  As moms always told us " KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID"   ..and so you should ..

Get a 350 or 305HO ( out of a camero or something)  ..Th350..and a 205 T-case .. and that will ROCK your little jeep.  ( 205 is the gear T-case that is small and probably the hardest to break) .... Custom driveshafts etc .. and BAM ..

Hope that helps ..

AMC stuff is great ... lots of power .. they bolt to TH400's which is kind of bad as jeeps are soo short ... th350 is better for driveshaft angles ;-)
Also AMC stuff is harder to find and parts are harder to get ..

Just my 3 and 4 cents
