MJ front lift advice
« on: April 20, 2009, 11:26:24 PM »
Okay, so I bought an Eliminator, and I'm picking up comancherusty's parts for the unit:

sway bar drop brackets
Rocky Road tubular gusseted lower control arms, greasable urethane bushings for 3-6" inch lifts.
Rough Country adjustable track bar
Rough Country or Rocky Road (can't remember) bolt- on SPOA kit

The question is, what is the CORRECT thing I need for the front, and what could I probably find at the PNP in Calgary (heading that way Friday)?

Thanks for any help you can give,
Dunl

You'll need probly 4.5" coils to match the rear SOA lift. Maybe bigger. You won't find those in the junkyard.. F-150 coils might get you 3". You'll also need brake lines. Use YJ ones.

i can't imagine the f150 coils will ride well. proably like a dump truck, i mean an older f150 weighs twice what the lil' commanche weighs.  might have to pony up some $$$$ for actual lift springs

to my knowledge as well, an XJ rear diff is set up for spring over axle, and would bolt in directly to your MJ......... a D44 would be a nice upgrade

If I recall, I don't think ANY diff bolts right into a Comanche? Perches are different or something?

IF the f150 coils get you 3"s, just add 1.5" spacers to the front, will sit you level at 4.5"s.

You will need more than 4.5" lift in the front to match the rear. I have 4.5" RE coils in mine with 2" spacers and it sits fairly level until I put the winch on. Mine also was a 2WD which has +/- 1" lower rear spring than 4WD version, depending on condition. Also, don't bother trying TJ coils. I tried 4" Superlift TJ/XJ coils and netted 1.5". As for the brake lines, I have read that YJ ones are good, but I found the listed length to be very close to the same. I have heard that a particular GM truck brake line of which I can get the numbers of are excellent for lifted TJ's and XJ'.

The rear axle from a XJ has a different width of spring perch centerline, so that isn't an option. If you have the D35 rear axle, I recommend swapping it for a D44 or 8.8 while you are doing the lift.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me as I went through everything you did on mine last year.

when i did my mj years ago, i used zj 4.5" coils and a 2" spacer, and the truck sat level with a SOA.  I think I also used a front driveshaft spacer and then had to grind the cross member a bit so the front drive shaft would not rub.
