I am going to be buying a 4in lift kit with springs and shocks pitman drop all the good stuff anybody want to make new friends while we drink beer and help me lift my jeep???

hmmm does that require actually wrenching? or is that stamd around and drink said beer and supervise?  Air tools? Tolls bigger than 1/4" drive?

It'd have to be some pretty fancy beer to entice anyone, it would seem. The problem is, if you wheel your jeep hard, it breaks and needs maintenance, and so I would guess that most of the dudes 'round here have plenty of work to do on their own jeeps, their spouses' jeeps and their friends' jeeps.

Also many of the users of this board are either pro mechanics at a shop or do side work themselves for $$...so you'd have to get an awful lot of that fancy beer.

If you want I would be willing to come take a look, have a beer, and give any advice I can offer, as long as you don't live too far away, I live in the south near Ikea. I have lifted a TJ and XJ for myself, and have helped several friends raise their rides.

P.P.S. If you are young and strong and feel like coming and shoveling dirt into a trailer for a day or two perhaps I could free up some time to do some actual wrenching on your rig...and maybe even let you use some of my tools, air tools spoil you, and after using them I wouldf never want to tackle a lift without them.

for what its worth, most people don't like doing mechanical work for free on peoples rigs that they don't know.

there are two reasons for this:  first, when/if something breaks, regardless if its their fault, said person will be inclined to contact that person that helped and second; not many people are interested in lending tools/time etc when their craps broken.

There are mechanics on the board who do this type of work but definitely not for free.

What you want to do is not that difficult and is usually a good starting point if you want to work on your own rig than post up if you have problems,

i'm not sure what kind of deal you're leaning towards though, although i'll listen; sometimes i do that instead of talk............. not often though. 

i usually only work on white and Red Grand Cherokees though unless the price is right.

also, if your intention is to sell the jeep not really interested;  i dont mind helping fellow wheelers, but not if they're intentions to just fix and sell (unless its mine  )

i'm 18 and pretty small and i do all my on work by my self i find others just get in the way or talk to much and nothing really happens. when doing things by your self you just need to come up with creative ideas to do thing that would take help normally. just my 2 cents

I totally agree, friends usually just chat and drink beer but it is more fun...Usually when freinds come to "help" it turns into a garage pary. I remember sliding my way under my TJ with the manual tranny on top of my body and then benching it up by myself...really tough, kinda stupid but sure does give you a sense of accomplishment! On the other hand though, it's really been a help in the past to have a secnd opinion when something isn't going how it should...of course some second opinions are worth a lot more than others...and it's also kind of a good idea to have a buddy around in case something unexpected happens.  A friend of mine was under his car yelling for help with gas all over his face and holding the fuel line from leaking more for quite a while before anyone heard...he just needed someone to pass him some vice grips to clamp off the fuel line so he could get out and wash the gas out of his eyes. He was afraid to just come out and let it leak because he had a propane heater running in the garage at the time...scary.

The key for me was to have a daily driver and a jeep, now you can take your time and it's not essential that it gets done that day...this allows a way more relaxed attitude about working on the jeep.

The other thing that helped huge in gaining the confidence to tackle whatever needs to be done for me was buying a jeep for $100 at the write-off auction. Hey, it only cost $100, so no big deal if I messed it up...that jeep needed a lot of work to pass the salvage inspection and it was a great learning experience.
