I would possibly be up for some trails on Saturday .  Would still need someone that knows the trails, i've only been a few times.  I have chains and straps though.

I'm not looking for anything to crazy though. Running a 09 Sahara with BFG Muds.

Ill keep an eye on this thread.

Cheers

Please don't use chains as part of a vehicle recovery. It can be very dangerous if something breaks - metal parts can become missiles.

What you want to find is a tow strap with "soft" ends.

The only time that chains should be used is if you are winching a log or boulder...and then you need to know what sort of quality chain you are using, and what the rated strength is.

I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

And if he's talking about tire chains?

When someone says "Chains and Straps" i think tire chains and tow straps.  But im just thinking positive that no sane person would tow with chains.

Tire chains are not needed either.  Unless the trail is full of snow and ice.  You should be good this weekend...

tire chains are the opposite of positive thinking................ in summertime conditions they will just act as rototillers on your tires and chew the earth to smithereens. they should ONLY be used in snow/ice.........

please do not chain up at mclean..... there will be evidence of every place you slip a tire............  to repeat DO NOT CHAIN UP YOUR TIRES

i will apologize if we seem to be coming off as harsh when it comes to recovery.  chains are not very useful in many recoveries, and tire chains are not useful except the winter.

i  have been in many 'stuck' situations, and they suck. having improper equipment makes it worse.  'tow straps' and improper tow points, etc can make a simple extraction dangerous and difficult when stuff breaks.

just cause you've 'seen' someone do it, or 'have' done it and nothing bad has happened, doesnt' make it safe.  i could say i have drank and drove and arrived safely, (i don't do that, just an example)  but we don't classify it as acceptable....... neither are chains.......... nobody on this site wants anyone to learn this the hard way..........

so before you  go buy some bling bling fancy lights or some other useless mod for your vehicle, invest in a good tow strap and other recovery equipment....... your 40k investment will thank you in the end...................

i'm out, cheers all and have fun this weekend

haha... guess I should be more careful with my words !

I tow VEHICLES with Straps, and DO NOT USE tire chains period. Chains are an old habit always came in handy for work, moveing objects around or clearing trails.  So yes I do have both chains and straps.

Never fear!  But glad you guys are very stern about this, makeing sure everyone can leave the trails happy and alive.  To spend more money and do it again!

Cheers!

Well I do use a chain and straps when winching with a hi lift.  I don't think there is a better or safer way?

A chain is reasonable when winching with a hi lift. We just wanted to make sure that you were aware of the dangers of including chains in your recovery system if you're trying to pull one vehicle out using another.

I am heading down to Maclean Saturday, with a buddy and my 6 year old boy.  My buddy just picked up his first Jeep and is his first time going down there.  We don't know the trails that well but if you don't mine a couple more for the run?  I have a Maroon TJ and he has a Black YJ.  We were planning to be at the store about 9:30-10:00.

I am 90% sure ill be able to go (Cant confirm yet =().  9:30 - 10 works for me.

Again don't know the trails to well, got a map.  I guess we could play it by ear and turn around if there is anything that looks a little too risky for our tastes?
