Blower resistors
« on: August 10, 2011, 07:19:53 AM »
Anyone have regular problems with the resister or contacts melting?
I lost my first 2 fan speeds and have started a little bit of reading.

Just wondering if this will be a common occurrence and if I should go ahead with the relay fix or just replace the resistor and hope it doesn't happen again

Just replace the resistor.  They wear out on most (or some) older vehicles.  If it burns up every six months start looking for the cause.

Resistor packs that continuously burn out are often a sign that the blower motor is going. As the blower motor wears out it often starts pulling more and more amps.

I don't know if I have the same problem but, my "original" blower switch went nuclear I picked up one off Ebay. It lasted about a year. So I built my own out of 3 push type on/off switches and haven't had a problem since
