Time for some new shoes on the xj. Currently have procomp mt that are heavily siped so that they work esp on ice and snow. They also have excessive side wall damage with three slow leaks on side walls due to driver error.   ::)
Lots of pros and cons with each tire , have included the federals cause they are increadable in the mud but do not know how they work on ice and snow. After a few miles on the new tires will probably sipe them anyways. Need thoughts and opinions.

You need to be honest with yourself and your needs Andy.

You mention ice and snow driving a lot so I'm going to assume that you will be owning only one set of tires. The tires you have in your poll will be so-so for year-round driving conditions. I'm going to have to say Goodyear Duratracs on this one for an all around tire my friend . It would be nice to have a set of red label/comp tires but why? Do you spend the majority of your time in the XJ off road?  I love my Toyos( I drank the Kool Aid), but I find them to be a tad squirrelly in winter in 2wd, so I own a set of dedicated winter tires as well . If I had only one choice for a set of tires year-round it would be the Duratracs. Not good enough in the mud you say? Air that crap down to low single digits and you would be able to hang with my Toyos .

I moved all the fun, supportive, and "not so relevant" comments to their own thread over in chit-chat.

All I can say is I love my duratracs. What they are like off road I can't tell you yet as my jeep is stuck in2wd until I can afford to regear the front. But on street they are suuuper quiet. Really weired as they are the most aggressive all terrain iv ever seen

For a tire that's not truly an MT, I think you'll be pretty happy with them. I wheeled some mixed mud/snow with mine last fall, and while they can't keep up with a "real" MT, they work pretty well.

Thank you for all of your advice. Did not include the duratracs for a couple of reasons in the poll quistion. Already have side wall problems with what I currently have and the duratracs have good traction cause they flex , cause they have a very thin sidewall. I do agree they work very well. Have blown out sidewalls on gravel roads on the past.
For the type a driving I do a lot of back country gravel roads all across Alberta under a lot of different weather conditions eg this year. Badland coulees in eastern alberta , rock trails down south, muskeg munching in northern eastern alberta, all the regular club trails around here , entire forestry trunk road from coleman to benzantin corner by Gp. and a little bit of daily driving. Please keep the opinions coming.

If sidewall durability is a big issue, then I'd say that the answer is to sipe a set of E range Toyo's...or look at a set of Toyo M-55's. The M-55's are a seriously ugly tire, but they work like a champ for crappy oilpatch driving, and they're seriously tough. Not an MT....but good tires.

So what did you end up deciding on Andy? I got a great deal on some Toyo's from Chanda yesterday and I'm very happy with them. I saw what looks to be your spare there and just wondered

Have not bought any yet. That tire was just the valve stem leaking. Now down to one tire that has a non repairable side wall leak and the other had excessive mud inside the tire, removed mud but now thumps really bad on the highway. Hmm maybe mtrs. Still deciding.

I know chiming in late here but since it is the tire thread. I will be running two sets of tires road I am fine with what is best for pure wheeling now. I had a set of old firestones I used only for oh wheeling on last rig actually, used them on the last two rigs I had built sadly they were discontinued long ago they resembled tractor tires basically and were bias if that tells you how old they were. Any way enough rambling which ones would you guys suggest now I am only planning on running 33s but thinking wider then 12.5s?

Those firestone at/x ?  where the ultimate mud tire.  Way better then boggers ever could be in extreme mud and muskeg. I think another company bought the molds ans makes them. Stag tire ?
Job status changed here so have not had time to get new tires yet. Leaning towards the mtr kevlar koolaid brand.
